Model: Deco
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.3 Build 20250612 Rel. 67216

I bought this unit in late August and installed it the same night.

The installation went smoothly, and it’s been solid overall. However, about a week ago, I started seeing intermittent packet loss, and even from the beginning, I noticed upload speeds were often measured higher than downloads.

Setup: I live in a two-story home (about 2,400 sq ft, built in 2001). There is one Deco in the living room, one in the master bedroom above it, and the third in my office across the house. I usually work on a new laptop just a few feet from that third unit.

Recent tests (two different speed test services, run about 20 minutes ago):

  • Service A: ~275 Mbps down / ~385 Mbps up

  • Service B: ~162 Mbps down / ~378 Mbps up

My ISP plan is gigabit fiber.  Running a speed test from inside the Deco app shows ~935 Mbps down / ~941 Mbps up.

A few nights ago, I also ran traceroutes from my phone to a major news site, both on the normal SSID and on the 6 GHz SSID, standing about 10 feet from the main Deco. I saw 16–27% packet loss, mostly at the first hop (the main Deco).

Given that this is new hardware in a home size that 3 units should well cover, why am I seeing these slowdowns and packet loss? Shouldn’t this setup be performing much better?

  @Cabledude27

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

Can you consistently reproduce this issue:

I also ran traceroutes from my phone to a major news site, both on the normal SSID and on the 6 GHz SSID, standing about 10 feet from the main Deco.

I saw 16–27% packet loss, mostly at the first hop (the main Deco).

Can you share some screenshots of the network map on the Deco APP, such as:

As for the network speed on the new laptop, did it connect to the 5GHz or 6GHz of the third Deco unit?

How much speed did the new laptop have when everything is working as expected?

Thanks a lot.

Best regards.

  @David-TP Thanks for the response.

To set the stage right now at 2:50 pm EST, we are in the middle of some of our highest usage, for example right now my wife is on a Teams call for work via VPN, I'm on my work computer and just got off a Teams call, and testing with my personal laptop to respond to this post, so this is usually what our day is like from 8:30 a.m. to 530pm.  Packet loss testing on the primary device was done after we finished work and watching Netflix TV streaming. She was on her personal laptop coding for VR games, and I was surfing on my phone, so there was less peak activity.

For the most part, yes, I see packet loss at the main unit.  I tested last night again, around the same time as my prior tests, which were around 6-8 pm EST from my new phone via the Scany app, and got 16% packet loss.  I tried to include a lot more detail in my main post, but it kept getting flagged for content, so I had to run it through ChatGPT to summarize it for the post.  From my MacBook to the third unit in my office, I didn't see any packet loss when I tested via the command line.

For the question on the speeds from the laptop, I previously had a WiFi 6 router and got around the same download speeds (250-300 down), but nowhere near the upload speeds.

I was doing a 6Ghz speed test just now and had a bit of a time getting connected to the 6Ghz network.  It kept failing until I went into the app and did the network optimization, and after that, I finally connected.  When I first opened the app, it had a banner saying that it had temporarily adjusted the band channel for 5Ghz.

6Ghz Speed Test Results:

ST - 382Mbps Down/341Mbps Up

CF - 480Mbps Down/352Mbps Up

Current speed tests just now on the regular WiFi SSID (I set this device connection preference to be 5GHz if not on 6GHz)

ST - 273Mbps Down/221Mbps Up

CF - 556Mbps Down/403 Mbps Up
