Deco X50 Ethernet backhaul unstable when Tapo H500 is connected
Hello,
I’m experiencing network instability when connecting a Tapo H500 to my Deco X50 (US) v1.0 system.
Setup details
-
Main Deco: X50(US) v1.0 — firmware 1.6.7 Build 25031412
Connected by Ethernet to:-
The ISP modem (WAN)
-
Secondary Deco (Ethernet backhaul)
-
Tapo H500(US) v1.0 — firmware 1.3.1 Build 20250822
-
-
Secondary Deco: X50(US) v1.0 — firmware 1.6.7 Build 25031412
Connected via Cat6 cable directly to the main Deco. -
Tapo H500: connected by Ethernet to the main Deco.
Currently managing one Tapo C520WS (v2.0, firmware 1.1.2).
I also have two C246D cameras waiting for a future firmware that adds H500 compatibility.
Problem #1 — Can’t configure Wi-Fi on H500
When trying to add Wi-Fi to the H500, the setup fails with an error.
I’m doing this from a phone connected to the Deco’s 5 GHz network.
Because of this, I can only use the H500 via Ethernet for now.
Problem #2 — Ethernet backhaul becomes unstable
Once the H500 is connected by Ethernet to the main Deco:
-
The secondary Deco randomly loses connection.
-
The LED turns blinking red for 20–30 seconds, then returns to green.
-
In the Deco app, I see a warning about Ethernet backhaul instability.
-
As soon as I disconnect the H500, the issue disappears completely.
Question
What could be causing this interference?
I suspect the H500 might be generating Ethernet negotiation or broadcast issues, but I’d like to know if this is a known bug or if there’s a recommended configuration to keep it wired (I prefer Ethernet to avoid adding Wi-Fi load).
I can reset the H500 and try Wi-Fi setup again if needed, but ideally I’d like to use it by cable.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
