Hi everyone,

In my house, I need to make sure that I always have WiFi on both floors, even after a power cut. So, I am thinking about the following setup:
1st Floor: A UPS (2200VA) which powers the FTTH router, a Deco X50 and the TL-SG1218MPE POE+ switch, from which a cat6 cable runs to the 2nd floor (plus some others to the 1st floor).
2nd Floor: A Deco X50-PoE is connected AND powered from the ethernet cable that comes from the switch of the 1st floor. A 2nd switch TL-SG1210P is connected to the 2nd ethernet port of the Deco X50-PoE (the swiitch is connected to the mains for power).

Could you please help me verify that the above will work? To be more specific, I am a little skeptical about the Deco X50-PoE on the 2nd floor and whether or not it will be able (from an electric power perspective) to support both WiFi AND the 2nd floor switch, as it is powered by the PoE port of the 1st floor's switch. In case of a power cut, I only need to have WiFi on both floors (no need to have the 2nd switch on the 2nd floor powered).

Any help and insight will be highly appreciated!

I understand that you want to ensure WiFi coverage on both floors during power outages, using a Deco X50 on the 1st floor and a Deco X50-PoE on the 2nd floor, with the X50-PoE powered via PoE from your TL-SG1218MPE switch. According to our knowledge base, the Deco X50-PoE is designed to be powered by PoE (supporting IEEE802.3at and IEEE802.3bt standards), so it can operate using power delivered from your PoE-capable switch on the 1st floor. This will allow the Deco X50-PoE to provide WiFi on the 2nd floor even during a power outage, as long as the switch and main Deco are powered by your UPS. The second switch (TL-SG1210P) on the 2nd floor, connected to the Deco X50-PoE's LAN port, will not receive PoE power from the Deco; it must be powered separately from the mains. In a power outage, if the 2nd floor switch is off, the Deco X50-PoE will still function as long as it receives PoE from the 1st floor switch. Your setup will work as intended for WiFi continuity during outages.

Need help with the Deco app, setup, Ethernet backhaul, network switch or rolling back firmware? Router or AP mode? https://community.tp-link.com/us/home/forum/topic/699816?page=1
