Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.7.1 Build 25080612 Rel 70421

Hi,

I have got a deco X55 across 2 locations, and they have massively let me down to the extent that I am having to order standalone wifi routers, the problem is worse with iphone users, the wifi keeps disconnecting/reconnecting, i am not sure what else to do or what can be done to resolve the issue. The first location has a main deco unit below a satellite one, they are both connected by a ethernet backhail, the ethernet cable is good as the backhail icon is shown on the app.

The users report that its disconnecting/reconnecting for them and they are unable to use the WIfi. One of the deco unit is running on 1.4.6 build 20250211 Rel 39448 whilst the other is running on firmware version 1.7.1 Build 25080612 Rel 70421. I have tried to do an update, but its telling me that its on the latest one which is weird. I have disbled fast roaming and Beamforming, I read on a different post that these 2 features should be disabled.

The setup is as follows.

Running on Wifi Router mode.

IPTV/VLAN = Disables

DDNS= Disabled

Doh & Dot = Disabled

EasyMesh = Disabled

I would like to know if there is anything I can do to resolve the issue or if I need to bin the product and start working on replacement standlone routers.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for sharing the details of your situation. I understand that you are experiencing frequent Wi-Fi disconnections on your Deco Mesh system (with Ethernet backhaul confirmed), particularly affecting iPhone users, even though your firmware is up to date and features like Fast Roaming and Beamforming are disabled.

Here are some targeted troubleshooting steps to help address unstable or dropping connections on your Deco Mesh system:

Main Deco Unstable/Dropping:
1. Ensure the Ethernet cables connecting your main Deco are securely plugged in and not damaged. If possible, try replacing them with new cables.
2. In the Deco app, go to MORE > Internet Connection > IPv4 > DNS Address, and set the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1.
3. If you previously used a different router or PC, try cloning its MAC address to your Deco. For instructions, see https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2925/.

Satellite Deco Unstable/Dropping:
1. Make sure all Deco units are placed in open areas (not inside cabinets or corners) for optimal signal.
2. Move satellite Decos closer to the main Deco to ensure the backhaul signal strength is at least 2/3 bars.
3. Temporarily disconnect any Ethernet cables from satellite Decos to see if this improves stability.
4. In the Deco app, check MORE > ECO Mode (if available) and ensure ECO Mode is turned off.

Client Devices (like iPhones) Unstable/Dropping:
1. In the Deco app's client list, select your device and ensure 'Speed Limit' is disabled, and that 'Mesh' is ON and 'Connection Preference' is set to AUTO.
2. Check the 'Parental Control' section to make sure your devices are not restricted by any profiles.
3. Make sure your iPhone is connected to the nearest Deco with a strong signal, and, if possible, is using the 5GHz or 6GHz band (these are better for high-speed devices than 2.4GHz). You can try toggling Wi-Fi off and on again on your device to reconnect.

Additional Notes for IoT/2.4GHz Devices:
• If you have many Deco units and many IoT devices, try temporarily powering off some units to see if stability improves.
• For Wi-Fi 7 models, you can also try setting the 2.4GHz Channel Width to 20MHz and using the 'Network Optimization' tool in the Deco app.

If you have tried all the above and the issue persists, please contact TP-Link support and provide details of the troubleshooting steps you've completed. This will help us assist you more efficiently.

If you are still considering replacing your Deco Mesh with standalone routers, we recommend completing these troubleshooting steps first, as mesh systems generally provide better coverage and seamless roaming when functioning correctly.
