Model: Deco X50-4G
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 build 20250804 rel. 78460

Hello.

Recently bought a 3-pack kit with X50's (hardware v. 1)

I set them up in a ethernet backhaul config and added WIFI access control, reason being I have a lot of WPA2 only IOT devices in my home, which I feel like compromise my network security because the dedicated IOT network doesn't seem to be isolated from the main network.

With the 3 units I still had zones without wifi coverage, so I decided to add a X50-4g unit (hardware v. 2) for the added GSM backup feature and to cover the missing area.

However after adding the X50-4g unit the WIFI access control feature has been missing??

Is this as intended or am i missing something?

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi, welcome to the community.

Deco X50-4G _V2_1.2.0 build 20250804 rel. 78460 doesn't support WiFi Access Control, which needs the support of all Deco units in the Mesh network.

So when Deco X50-4G is added to the previous Mesh network of Deco X55_V1, the Deco App no longer displays the entrance for "WiFi Access Control".

Did you set Deco X50-4G as the satellite Deco? 4G Backup didn't work when Deco X50-4G serves as the satellite Mesh unit.

If you just purchased Deco, Deco X50-5G_V1(with the latest firmware 1.3.0 Build 20250724) would be a better choice, and it supports WiFi Access Control.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Hello David.

Thank you for getting back to me.

I currently have one of the regular X50's as the main router unit in the basement right next to the ISP modem for convenience, and the new X50-4g as a satellite on the 2nd floor. In this config I'm unable to use the 4g as backup?

I've gone with this setup because the 4g coverage should be better on the 2nd than in the basement.

Wiring in my house is done so that there's only 1 wire going to each satellite from the basement, it would be difficult to add more wires. so I would be unable to add a switch to the X50-4g unit on the 2nd floor and use that as the main unit, from my understanding.

As for WiFi Access Control, there's no plans on adding this feature to the X50-4g? to me it would seem like a software limitation.

Swapping to a x50-5G unit would obviously charge me more, and my current GSM provider doesn't support 5g at this time.

I hope the above makes sense, look forward to hearing from you.

Edit: According to your website, both the X50-4g, X50-5g and X50 V1 should come with Wifi Access Control?

Hi, thanks for the update.

Here are some details for you to look over.

Yes, 3G/4G backup is no longer available when Deco X50-4G serves as the satellite Deco. It only works when the Deco X50-4G is the main Deco in 'Wi-Fi Router' mode.

-Do you refer to "Access Control" here?

These two features didn't refer to the same setting."WiFi Access Control", or "MAC Filtering", in other words, are used to allow or block certain MAC addresses from connecting to Deco Wi-Fi.

"Access Control" embedded in Network Security mainly relies on predefined policies to manage access and protect sensitive data, applications, and other network resources from theft and misuse.

Or Deco X50-4G could work in standalone mode. If the main point is to provide a Wi-Fi signal on the 2nd floor. You can consider creating a new Mesh network with Deco X50-4G individually:How to create a new network in the Deco app

As for the future plan to introduce "WiFi Access Control", there hasn't been further news on whether or when Deco X50-4G will be included, as 5G will be more widely used and most mobile service providers have already started deploying 5G networks.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.

Thank you for responding.

Okay, makes it difficult for me to see which features I'll be missing out on with the different devices. Do you have a different sheet or page I could visit to compare features?

I've just noticed that the client isolation feature is also missing, which I assume is also because of the X50-4g not supporting it.

Would the X50-5G support that, or is there any other device with 4g backup capability which I could consider while having both Wifi access control and client isolation?

My main objective is to close the IOT WPA2 security gap, either with client isolation og mac whitelisting while also getting GSM backup.

Look forward to your answer.

Hey David. Can you confirm for me that the X50-5G has both WIFI access control and device isolation feature? Thank you!

Hi, thank you very much for your time and patience.

Deco X50-5G has both WiFi Access Control and Device Isolation.

By the way, these two features need the support of all Deco units in the Mesh network.

Best regards.

Hello David Thank you for getting back to me. The only other units in the system would be the regular X50's HW V. 1. So that shouldn't be an issue. However I've been reading reports that the X50-5G has a lot of issues, so that would be a large price gap just for the added GSM capability and possibly issues. Regards. Lasse
