Hi TP-Link team,

I’m reaching out regarding a recent change to the Deco X20NZ system and the HomeShield service. I’ve been using the Deco mesh network at home and had previously set up Parental Controls to manage internet access for my kids. These controls were working well and were a key reason I chose the Deco system.

However, I’ve recently discovered that these settings are now locked behind a paid subscription, and I can no longer access or modify the existing parental control configurations — even though they were set up before this change. I did not receive any notification about this update, and it’s disappointing to lose access to a feature that was already in use.

Is there a solution to at least deactivate or adjust the existing settings without being forced into a subscription. This would help maintain control over my network and avoid unintended restrictions or disruptions for my family.

Please let me know if there is a workaround or if TP-Link plans to offer a solution for existing users who had parental controls configured prior to this change.

Thanks

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

It has been confirmed with the senior engineers that the firmware update retains all legacy features from the HomeCare Protection service at no cost.

It is suggested to delete and create the Parental Control profile again to check whether you can edit the Time Limits.

If possible, please also try to factory reset the hardware once.

However, if you still run into any issues, please feel free to help me submit the Deco APP and add some screenshots of the error message that you might get during the modifications to the Parental Control profile:How to submit Deco APP log

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

Thanks, David. I’ve since updated the Deco app, and the Parental Control feature has returned, allowing me to manage my children’s internet access.

Do you know how long the Parental Control functionality I’ve used for many years will remain available without requiring a subscription?

Thanks again for helping resolve this issue, its greatly appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the update.

Currently, the new firmware introduced the subscribed version but the free features remain free at no cost, which I think it will maintain the current situation in the future.

Best regards.
