Please let me know either way if the following helps or not.

A "crashing" TP-Link smart plug with an MFA code issue is likely a connectivity or setup problem that can be resolved by a full reset of the plug and re-setup through the Tapo app. First, try unplugging and replugging the smart plug to see if a simple reboot solves the problem, then consider rebooting your router to ensure your network is functioning correctly. If the problem persists, perform a hard reset on the plug itself, then follow the on-screen instructions in the Tapo app to reconnect it.

Step 1: Perform basic troubleshooting

  • Reboot the plug: Unplug the smart plug from the power outlet for a few seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Reboot your router: Unplug your router for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in to restart it.
  • Check Wi-Fi signal: Make sure the smart plug is within a strong Wi-Fi signal area and not too far from the router.
  • Disable mobile data or VPN: On your phone, turn off mobile data and any VPN to ensure the app is communicating directly over Wi-Fi.

Step 2: Reset and re-setup the smart plug

  • Remove the device: Open the Kasa app, tap the gear icon on the device, and then tap "remove device" twice to factory reset it through the app.
  • Hard reset the plug: Locate the reset button on the plug, press and hold it for about 5 seconds until the LED indicator light blinks amber and green (or blue on some models).
  • Add the device back: Tap the "+" icon in the Kasa app, select "smart plugs," and choose your specific model.
  • Reconnect to Wi-Fi: Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the plug to your home's 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Complete the setup: Once connected to your Wi-Fi, you will be prompted to name the device and set its location.

Have you tried to delete and reinstall the app?

If this is a recurring issue, please get the app crash logs from your iPad and provide them to us for analysis.

How to Get the Crash Logs for Tapo App from iOS?

1. Go to the system Settings on your iOS device, then click Privacy & Security.

2. Navigate to Analytics & Improvements >> Analytics Data.

3. Swipe down to show the top search bar, then search the latest Tapo app crash logs with the .ips extension in the list.

4. Choose the log, then click the Share button on the upper right corner.
