The VoIP-supported List

Deco: Deco X73-DSL

DSL Modem Routers: Archer VR1600v, Archer VR2100v,Archer VR2800v and More

5G Routers: TL-MR6500v

In brief, Most VoIP-supported models don't have a built-in DECT Base Station, which means they don't support connecting cordless DECT handsets directly. Some models, like Archer VR2100v_V1/Archer VR2800v_V1, have integrated DECT (DECT CAT-iq), allowing users to pair handsets of the same standard directly with the router – no Base Station required. However, to ensure a reliable phone service, it is recommended to add a Base Station from the same brand.

The following content will provide more details on working properly with a DECT phone system.

A DECT phone vs  A corded Analog telephone

A DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) phone uses digital wireless technology to connect the handset to the Base Station, allowing for greater mobility and improved sound quality compared to traditional analog cordless phones. In contrast, a normal (corded) phone connects directly to the telephone line and does not offer the same level of mobility or advanced features such as interference-free communication and enhanced security.

The general DECT system usually includes a Base Station and one or more cordless handsets, take Panasonic Cordless Phone - KX-TGM420 for example:

1* Base unit

1* Cordless handset

The supplied handset and base unit are often preregistered. If users purchase an additional handset, it must be manually registered.

How to connect the DECT phones to the VoIP router

Case one: The cordless handset has its own base unit.

Take Deco X73-DSL for example:

Hardware Connection: ISP---<DSL port>Deco X73-DSL---<Phone/FXS port>DECT Base Station

Case two: There is no base unit, and the cordless needs to be paired with the VoIP router integrated with DECT.

***Notice: Please make sure it is a universal handset for addition to Routers with DECT CAT-iq.

Take Archer VR2100v for example:

Method 1: via DECT Button

  • Set your DECT handset in the registration mode, then press and hold the DECT button on the DSL router for about 3 seconds until the Phone LED flashes.

  • Enter the PIN (Default: 0000) on the DECT handset if required.

Method 2: via Web Management Interface

  • Log in to the web admin UI of the router.

  • Register New DECT Handset under Advanced > Telephony > Telephony Devices.

  • Go to Advanced > Telephony > DECT to enable DECT and add PIN cord if needed.

Tips to improve DECT phones' signal strength

Find a proper location for the Base Station and the handset

  • Place the base unit in a central, open location rather than tucked away or near the floor. Stay away from the microwaves and other high-power home electronics.

  • For best performance, use the handset within the recommended range of the Base Station (typically up to 50 m indoors / 300 m outdoors, depending on the environment). If possible, keep them in clear sight and avoid thick walls, metal surfaces, or floors between the handset and Base Station.

Verify the hardware connections and router configuration

  • Confirm that the telephone cable is firmly inserted into the base and the VOIP router.

  • Fully recharge the handset. A low handset battery can affect signal stability.

  • Keep "Reduce DECT Field Strength" and "ECO DECT" disabled by default.
