H200 Cannot connect to wifi after firmware update.
Yesterday one of my Tapo H200 hubs received new firmware version 1.61. It cannot connect to wifi in a correct way since that update. I already factory reset the hub and reconfigured it using an ethernet cable.
Symptoms:
- Cannot configure hub over wifi after reset. App sais this firmware version does not support wireless configuration. Also Hub does not show up as wifi access point
- Hub can be added using ethernet cable connected to router
- When connected with ethernet cable, I can connect to wifi
- When I remove ethernet cable, led flashes and goed back to green. Connection to wifi works
- When I disconnect power and reconnect power, hub does not connect to wifi. Led stays orange.
I cannot move the hub back to its original position in the garage where not ethernet is available. It refuses to connect after disconnected from power.
My other hub is on firmware 1.6.0 and still has connection.

I have the same problem. Is there a solution after six months?

Hi,
Yes they pushed a custom firmware to my hub's. This firmware was made after several attempts and debug work. They mentioned the problem was very situational and had something to do with possible signal distortion in my surroundings. They mentioned I should not update the firmware to future main stream updates.
I appreciate all the effort they have put in. But I still find it odd that they cannot merge te solution in the main firmware.
I suspect it has to do with my ASUS router, an RT-AC88U. That router has behaved a bit erratic in the past on the 2.4Ghz band.
I also shared this info with them and I bought a new TP-Link router.
Have not installed that router yet.

@MaartenK Thanks for the info. No, I don't think it's the router. I have a Fritzbox and the exact same problem. Just like the H100s no longer work with Matter after the last firmware update. Endless bugs

Yeah it is a bit dissapointing. I also saw there is new firmware for my cameras, but I am a bit afraid to upgrade. You might contact support on this issue. Maybe they can push the same firmware I got.

@MaartenK To be honest, I will complain about the H200 beforehand and send it back. I expect firmware to work. I also have 3 H100s that are unusable after the last update. At least for Matter.

@MaartenK For your information: The 1.7.1 firmware for the H200 also makes it unsuitable for HomeAssistant. It never ends...Now it only works via "Matter" and on the LAN cable in Home Assistant.

Just to make sure: are you seeing the exact same issue as the original post? Meaning:
- Hub on WiFi -> reboot -> LED turns orange.
- Hub on Ethernet -> reboot -> LED stays green.
That firmware has been out for a long time, and we’ve only had two reports of this exact behavior. So it doesn’t seem like a common issue to me.
There was also a newer hub firmware (version 1.7.1) released recently. After updating to this version, does the problem still persist on your device?

@Wayne-TP Hello, Yes, the problem is identical. The latest firmware 1.7.1 is installed. The error remains, however. New problems were added with version 1.7.1. But that's a different topic.

Maybe it is a hardware issue in the V1 H200. I must say I like the cameras. But the software in the hubs is kind of slow and buggy. And I chose the TP-Link because they have an on premise hub with local storage. The effort from the support people was great. They kept trying and debugging. And it also surprises me the issue is not more common.
So maybe it is faulty wifi hardware.
