EX511 TPLINK limiting Claro's gigabit connection.
Subject: Defect Report - EX511 v2.0 LAN Ports failing to negotiate Gigabit speed (Capped at 100Mbps)
Device Information:
-
Model: EX511 v2.0
-
Firmware Version: 0.2.0 3.0.0 v607e.0 Build 230321 Rel.16035n
Problem Description: The device fails to negotiate Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps) on its LAN ports, physically limiting wired connections to 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet), despite being marketed as a Gigabit router.
Troubleshooting and Isolation Steps Performed:
-
Wi-Fi Throughput Verification: We confirmed that the WAN port is receiving the full bandwidth from the ISP. Via 5GHz Wi-Fi, the EX511 successfully delivers approximately 396 Mbps. This eliminates the ISP or the WAN input as the source of the bottleneck.
-
Cable and Source Integrity Test (Control Test): To rule out cabling issues, I connected my Xbox console directly to the ISP Modem (Claro) using a specific 30-meter Ethernet cable.
-
Result: The console achieved a download speed of 428.90 Mbps.
-
Conclusion: This proves that both the Ethernet cable and the client device (Xbox) are fully capable of Gigabit speeds.
-
-
The Failure Scenario: Using the exact same 30-meter cable and the same client device (Xbox), I connected them to the LAN ports of the TP-Link EX511.
-
Result: The connection speed immediately dropped and was capped at 100 Mbps.
-
This behavior persists across different LAN ports.
-
-
Configuration Attempts:
-
Switched Operation Mode to "Access Point" to disable NAT/QoS overhead.
-
Attempted to force "1000Mbps Full Duplex" negotiation in settings (where available).
-
Performed a factory reset.
-
Disabled "Green Ethernet" / Power Saving features.
-
Conclusion: Since the cable and client device are proven to support Gigabit speeds (400+ Mbps) when bypassing the router, the issue is isolated to a hardware defect or firmware failure in the TP-Link EX511's LAN switch interface, which refuses to handshake at 1000 Mbps. I request a warranty replacement.
