Model: Archer BE900
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20250917 rel.48519(4555)

Hello,

I currently own a TP-Link Archer BE900 and an Orange Livebox 7 Wi-Fi 7 in France.

In the next few days, I should receive an external Orange ONT that was promised to me by an Orange advisor. My goal is to fully replace the Livebox 7 for Internet access and use the Archer BE900 as the main router, not as a simple access point.

I would like to know whether the current BE900 firmware is able to properly handle a French Orange Fiber connection in this setup, and exactly which settings are supported or planned.

My target setup

I want to use the following topology:

Orange fiber line → Orange external ONT → WAN port of the TP-Link Archer BE900

And I want:

  • fully working Internet access,

  • without keeping the Livebox in front,

  • without double NAT,

  • without access point mode,

  • with the BE900 acting as the only main router.

What I already know

From my research, Orange Fiber in France usually requires at least:

  • WAN connection type = DHCP / Dynamic IP

  • Internet VLAN ID = 832

However, it seems this is not always enough, because Orange may also require specific DHCP options, depending on the situation, such as:

  • DHCP Option 60

  • DHCP Option 77

  • DHCP Option 90

  • possibly WAN MAC cloning

  • sometimes 802.1p / CoS priority

This is exactly the point where I need a clear answer from TP-Link.

My questions

  1. Does the Archer BE900 officially support full replacement of an Orange Livebox 7 on Orange Fiber France when using an external Ethernet ONT?

  2. With the current BE900 firmware, is it possible to configure:

    • VLAN ID 832 on the WAN interface,

    • an optional 802.1p / priority tag,

    • custom DHCP options such as 60, 77, and 90,

    • DHCPv6 / Prefix Delegation for IPv6,

    • WAN MAC clone?

  3. If some of these functions are not currently available in the web interface, are they available:

    • through a beta firmware,

    • through a hidden / advanced configuration page,

    • or are they planned in a future firmware update?

  4. If the BE900 currently cannot handle the advanced DHCP requirements needed for Orange Fiber France, does TP-Link plan to improve support for French ISPs, especially Orange?

What I would ideally like to configure

Ideally, I would like to set the BE900 like this:

  • WAN = Dynamic IP

  • Internet VLAN = 832

  • optional 802.1p / priority

  • custom advanced DHCP options

  • native IPv6 with DHCPv6-PD

Why I am asking

The BE900 is a very high-end router, so it would be disappointing if it could only be used as an access point behind an ISP router.

In my case, I want a real advanced setup:

  • BE900 as the main router,

  • full control over my local network,

  • full use of the hardware capabilities,

  • without depending on the limitations of the Livebox.

Useful details about my installation

  • ISP: Orange France

  • Current ISP router: Livebox 7 Wi-Fi 7

  • Router: TP-Link Archer BE900

  • ONT: Orange external ONT (coming soon)

  • Goal: complete replacement of the Livebox for Internet access

If any user has already succeeded with this exact setup using an Archer BE900 on Orange Fiber France, I would really appreciate detailed feedback:

  • firmware version used,

  • exact menu path / screenshots,

  • VLAN settings,

  • DHCP / IPv6 parameters,

  • known limitations.

Thank you in advance for any help or clarification.

Hi,

The situation today is still the same as reported here https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/111685 some years ago. TP-Link's Archer routers do not provide a way for the user to manually add custom DHCP options for the Internet connection.

With TP-Link Archer routers the only way to connect to ISPs that require DHCP options (or other special options that are not configurable via the webGUI) is via preconfigured ISP profiles that TP-Link has already built into the router firmware. For example, below is a screenshot of a DSL router that has such profiles.

Hi,

I also found this technical discussion on LaFibre about Orange France DHCP Option 90 generation.

From what I understand, this confirms that the main issue is not only VLAN 832, but the ability to inject specific DHCP options required by Orange FTTH.

So my question is now very simple:

Even if the required DHCP Option 90 format is known, does the Archer BE900 provide any way at all to send such a custom DHCP option on the WAN side?

If not, then this would confirm that the BE900 cannot fully replace a Livebox 7 on Orange France FTTH in router mode, regardless of VLAN settings.

Could you please confirm this point clearly?

Thank you.

No TP-Link router I have ever worked with supports DHCP Option 90. And I am quite sure the Archer BE900 is no exception.

Besides, you already have an Archer BE900 at home, right?
TP-Link's routers don't have any hidden menus or hidden options. Whatever configuration options for the Internet (WAN) connection you can see in the web management interface is all that you've got. If you don't see something that would allow you to send DHCP options, then it means it is not possible.

The easiest and probably the only way to use your BE900 in router mode (without double NAT), is to set your ISP device in bridge mode (confirm with your ISP if that's possible).

Here's an example how this can be achieved.
