Hi,

I have connected my external antenna to my router and initially I get download speeds of ~100Mbps but then the speed will drop suddenly over several days. If I power the router off and on this seems to have no affect.

Today I have detached the external antenna and re-attached the small supplied antennas. Then when I reconnect the external antenna the router then seems to realise this and it picks up the higher speed connection.

I am struggling to understand what forces the router to pick up the higher speed as powering off and on does not seem to do anything.

Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

Thanks

Jon

Hi,
The Archer MR600 has a slow speed when connected to an external antenna, which may be related to the antenna's placement. You can adjust its placement and check if this helps.
Btw, if there's little difference between using external and supplied antennas, we recommend using the supplied ones.

Best regards.

Thanks for the reply.

What's interesting though is that it appears that the 5G ready antenna is utiling the 5G frequencies to dliver the dramatic improvement in performance. I read about this in an online article. The antenna does dliver this improvement albeit for a time because the speeds jump to 100+ Mbps download and 40+ Mbps upload. I have never seen anything like this using the supplied antennas in the 5 years I have had the router placed in the same position.

So, I read what you say, but I must disagree, otherwise what explains the 100+ Mbps performance?

Thanks for you input.

Jonathan

Hi,
In your situation, you can keep using the Archer MR600 with the external antenna. And on the Archer MR600's web UI > Advanced > Status page, please pay attention to the 4G band the router uses.
If the same phenomenon occurs again, you can log in to the router's web UI to check whether the 4G band changes, which may cause the download and upload speeds to drop.
Best Regards
