IPIP Tunnel Support for IPv4 Fixed IP over IPv6 (MAP-E / v6plus)
I would like to request IPIP tunnel support for IPv6 environments to allow IPv4 Fixed IP connections, specifically for services like MAP-E (e.g., v6plus).
Background & The Problem: Some IPv6 internet services heavily restrict the number of usable IPv4 ports (often limiting users to just 240 ports). Because of this strict limitation, high-end mesh systems like the Deco BE85 cannot perform to their full potential.
This causes two major issues for users:
-
Premature Port Exhaustion: Without IPIP support to enable an IPv4 Fixed IP, the limited available ports are completely exhausted long before reaching the Deco's maximum connected device limit. This leads to connection drops and prevents the router from handling normal smart home network loads.
-
Online Gaming Connectivity: Because the restricted environment prevents the use of arbitrary ports, it causes NAT and connectivity issues during online multiplayer matchmaking and gaming.
Requested Solution: Please add IPIP tunneling support so users can configure an IPv4 Fixed IP over their IPv6 connection (such as v6plus Fixed IP services). This would bypass the port-sharing restrictions, grant access to all 65,535 ports, and allow the Deco hardware to truly support a large number of concurrent connections and seamless online gaming.
Thank you for considering this request!
