Model: Tapo T100
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.13.0 Build 250226 Rel. 140824

Please add to the T100 firmware the ability to stop sending notifications based on selectable time frame. It doesn't make sense that it keeps sending notifications during the day when, for instance, we install it to work only during the night. Thank you.

The sensor's notification feature allows you to set a schedule, so you can choose exactly when notifications should be delivered.

If the notifications are triggered through an automation, you can also define the automation's effective time, ensuring that notifications are only sent during the times you specify.

On the T100, device "Notifications" can be set to OFF or ON. I had previously chosen OFF, thinking that no notifications whatsoever would be sent to the app, but it's not so. Only by selecting ON one can specify the appropriate time frame for receiving notifications. In my opinion, this setting is a bit confusing.

Perhaps I misunderstood how the T100 works. Notifications is one thing, and Detections is another one. I'm using two T100s to light the stairs at night, but I don't want them to keep sending “person detected” signals to the app during the day. What's the point of receiving dozens and dozens of signals when I don't need to know how often people use those stairs during the day? Is it technically possible to add a setting that tells the T100 not to operate during hours when it’s not needed?

As mentioned above, there are two ways you can receive notifications from the sensor: 1. By enabling the sensor’s own notification feature; 2. By setting up an automation. These are independent functions. If you’ve only deleted the automation but the sensor’s own notification feature is still switched on, you will continue to receive detection alerts; and vice versa.

If you still receive sensor notifications when its own notification feature is switched off, it might be a good idea to double-check if you have any remaining automation rules that are configured to send a notification when the sensor is triggered.

Notifications and the detection function are indeed two separate things. If you don’t want to receive notifications at all, or only want them during specific times, that’s something you can currently set up.

As for the detection function itself, this device cannot be “turned off” via software. However, if you won’t be using it for an extended period, you can physically disable it by reinserting the plastic tab that came with the sensor—this disconnects the battery.

It’s also normal and expected for the sensor to detect activity that you may not find relevant. Since the sensor can’t predict when motion will happen, it remains in an active, ready state at all times.

  @Wayne-TP

I understood the difference. The problem is, as you have confirmed, that the T100 cannot be disabled by software when it's not needed (in terms of hours, not days).

In my usage example I set up an automation that switches a lamp on when someone uses the stairs *at night*. During the day, when we don't need the lamp for obvious reasons, the same stairs are used dozens and dozens of time, maybe a hundred times especially when the kids play going up and down at will. Notifications are disabled (off) and Detection interval is set to 60 in the app, yet the app keeps logging in each detection, thus consuming battery charge usellessly.

Maybe my case is a bit particular, I admit. Nevertheless, there might be other types of usage when entirely disabling the T100 during certain hours of the day makes sense (in order to let the battery last longer).

For the need to disable PIR, here is a specific feature request post: Request Ability to disable the PIR to a schedule to Extend Battery Life. I note that you've joined the discussion, but have you voted yet? If you haven’t already, don’t forget to cast your vote!
