Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.1 Build 20260403

Dear TP-Link Support and Development Team,

I am writing to report a significant wireless performance issue with the Archer BE9300 and Archer BE550 v2 that I have been experiencing.

Hardware Setup:

  • Main Router: Archer BE550 v2.0
  • Secondary Router: Archer BE550 v2.0
  • ISP: Telecable (Costa Rica) – Symmetrical 750/750 Mbps plan
  • Connection: Huawei OptiXstar EG8147X6-10 ONT in bridge mode

Problem Description:

On firmware 1.3.1 Build 20260403, both routers suffer from severe asymmetrical wireless speeds:

  • Download speeds are good (often 700–900 Mbps)
  • Upload speeds are heavily capped (frequently 100–300 Mbps or lower)

This issue occurs:

  • In EasyMesh configuration (wired backhaul)
  • Even when using the BE550 in standalone Access Point (AP) mode
  • On both 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands
  • On multiple client devices (especially noticeable on iPhone 17 Pro Max)

Wired speeds (LAN) remain full and symmetrical.

Evidence:

  • The problem started after updating to firmware 1.3.1.
  • I downgraded the BE550 to 1.2.6 Build 20260105.
  • After downgrade + factory reset + AP mode configuration, I now get excellent symmetrical speeds:
    • 752 Mbps Download / 807 Mbps Upload (see attached screenshot)

This proves that the issue was introduced by firmware 1.3.1.

Additional Information:

  • The same issue does not occur with my Linksys MBE70 on the same network and location.
  • I have tried the common troubleshooting steps: disabling QoS, IPv6, Flow Control, OFDMA, MU-MIMO, changing channel widths, etc., but the problem persisted until the firmware downgrade.

Request:

Could you please investigate why firmware 1.3.1 introduced this wireless upload performance regression? Many users appear to be affected based on community reports.

I am happy to provide more logs, speed test results, or test any beta firmware you may have.

Thank you for your attention to this issue.

Hi Joseph,

Tank you for your reply, I currently  have opened two support tickets for this but one is currently a duplicate.

The ticket numbers are: TKID260604972 and  TKID260604978.  We can work on only one and close the other one.

For this the I have configured my routers and I am not willing to perform testing or provide logs because it takes time and brings the network down but I can give you the steps so the support engineers can replicate this in the lab:

his issue should be very easy to reproduce and should only take a few minutes to test in your lab environment.

Test Setup

  • TP-Link Archer BE550 US V2
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • iPhone iOS Version: 26.5.1
  • Router Firmware Version: 1.2.6 Build 20260105
  • 1 Gbps symmetrical internet connection

Test Procedure

  1. Connect the Archer BE550 directly to the internet connection using an Ethernet cable and leave the router at its default settings.
  2. Connect the iPhone 17 Pro Max to the router via Wi-Fi.
  3. Connect a computer to one of the router's LAN ports using an Ethernet cable.
  4. Run a Speedtest on both the iPhone and the wired computer.

At this point, both devices should achieve similar symmetrical download and upload speeds.

  1. Upgrade the router to firmware version 1.3.1 Build 20260403.
  2. Repeat the same Speedtests on both the iPhone and the wired computer.

After upgrading, you should observe that the upload speeds measured on the iPhone over Wi-Fi are significantly lower than those measured on the wired computer, while download speeds remain normal.

Additional Test

You can also repeat the test using two Archer BE550 routers running firmware version 1.3.1 Build 20260403 configured in an EasyMesh setup.

The same symptoms should be observed:

  • Wired devices achieve expected symmetrical speeds.
  • Wireless clients experience significantly reduced upload speeds while download speeds remain largely unaffected.

Thank you for investigating this issue.

Fred

Another report but same outcome:

Router Information

  • Model: Archer BE550 V2.0 (US)
  • Firmware: 1.3.1 Build 20260403 rel.18661
  • Operation Mode Tested: Router Mode and Access Point Mode
  • Connection Between Nodes: Ethernet Backhaul (also tested as standalone AP)

Internet Service

  • Fiber connection: 750 Mbps download / 750 Mbps upload

Issue Description

I am experiencing a significant discrepancy between download and upload speeds over Wi-Fi.

Expected result:

  • Approximately 750 Mbps download and 750 Mbps upload (same as wired clients).

Actual result:

  • Download: consistently 740–750 Mbps
  • Upload: frequently limited to approximately 120–140 Mbps

The issue is only observed on Wi-Fi. Wired Ethernet clients consistently achieve full symmetric speeds (approximately 750/750 Mbps).

Client Device

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max
  • Latest available iOS version

Troubleshooting Performed

  1. Verified ISP connection:
    • Wired Ethernet clients achieve full symmetric speeds (~750/750 Mbps).
  2. Tested in Router Mode and Access Point Mode:
    • Same behavior observed.
  3. Tested with Ethernet backhaul:
    • No improvement.
  4. Disabled MLO:
    • No improvement.
  5. Tested connected directly to the primary router:
    • No improvement.
  6. Updated firmware:
    • Router reports latest firmware installed (1.3.1 Build 20260403).
  7. Factory-default wireless settings:
    • Issue persists.
  8. Connected using 6 GHz Wi-Fi:
    • Download remains near ISP limit.
    • Upload remains significantly lower.

Additional Observation

At least one earlier Wi-Fi speed test achieved approximately:

  • 748 Mbps download
  • 786 Mbps upload

This demonstrates that the router and client are capable of full upload performance under some conditions.

However, subsequent tests consistently produce:

  • ~745 Mbps download
  • ~130 Mbps upload

Request

Please advise whether:

  • This is a known issue affecting Archer BE550 V2.0 firmware 1.3.1.
  • There are known interoperability issues with iPhone 17 Pro Max on Wi-Fi 7 / 6 GHz networks.
  • A newer firmware, beta firmware, or recommended configuration exists to address reduced upload throughput on wireless clients.

  @Joseph-TP

Configuration Download Upload
Wired PC 750 Mbps 750 Mbps
iPhone 17 Pro Max Wi-Fi 745 Mbps 130 Mbps
Router Mode Same issue Same issue
AP Mode Same issue Same issue
Single Router Same issue Same issue
EasyMesh (2 routers) Same issue Same issue

The issue is reproducible on two Archer BE550 V2.0 units running firmware 1.3.1 Build 20260403.

That is powerful because it makes a hardware defect much less likely.

Another thing worth adding

Mention the firmware comparison explicitly:

Firmware 1.2.6 Build 20260105 appears to provide normal symmetric Wi-Fi performance, while firmware 1.3.1 Build 20260403 appears to introduce reduced upload throughput on wireless clients.

Only add that if you've personally verified it. Don't present it as confirmed if you haven't tested 1.2.6 yourself.

I would also ask them specifically:

Can TP-Link engineering confirm whether any wireless driver, 6 GHz, MLO, OFDMA, or Wi-Fi 7 PHY changes were introduced between firmware 1.2.6 Build 20260105 and 1.3.1 Build 20260403?
