Model : RE450

Hardware Version :

Firmware Version : 1.0.0 Build 20161202 Rel. 56846

ISP : --

Hello, I have this very same issue.

I am in Sweden in the EU using the RE450 with an ASUS RT-AC68U router. My RE450 BIOS is version 1.0.0 Build 20161202 Rel. 56846. Updated from the EU-region download section of the TP-Link website. It seems EU has not received the latest possible patch, available in the US and other regions.

2.4GHz is connecting but has some severe stability issues. The connection seems to drop out, frequently.
5.0GHz can be detected and selected using the RE450 network scanner but the RE450 is not connecting to this network.

In the log I get hundreds of lines such as these:
0 days 00:12:38 WIRELESS ERROR 2.4/5GHz failed the connection to the front end, due to: Connecting timed out.
0 days 00:13:06 WIRELESS ERROR 2.4/5GHz failed the connection to the front end, due to: Connecting timed out.
0 days 00:13:06 WIRELESS ERROR 2.4/5GHz failed the connection to the front end, due to: Connecting timed out.

I have tried:
- Experimenting with different 5GHz channels such as 40, 44, 48 etc etc.
- Experimenting with different channel bandwidth such as 20, 40, 80 MHz
- Changing the SSID names and passwords of all channels

Nothing is working to remedy the issue above.

Please help.

Best regards,
G

Been a while since I posted this and still no official response from TP-Link? Is this the official forum and if so, is the company taking their customers seriously?

Ok, so I decided I had to figure this out on my own.

I started by testing additional settings on the router. This included testing of all available static channels and bandwidths. 5GHz still not working.

Next I decided to downgrade the router to the earliest available BIOS.

RE450(EU)_V1_160530 Did not resolve the problem
RE450(EU)_V1_160727 Solved the problem. At least for the time being!

So in short. Downgrade and hope you find an earlier version of the BIOS that works for you.

UPDATE:

So I have been using the 160727 BIOS for about a day and the result is that the range extender seems to be having some serious internal malfunctions including frequently dropping it's routing table or something to that effect.

Please TP-Link officials. If you read this. Prioritize the development of a new BIOS for this piece of hardware.

A few days ago I decided I had had enough with the TP-Link product and what seems to be the company policy not to prioritize official forums and user feedback.

I returned my TP-Link product and opted on the slightly more expensive ASUS counterpart. Needless to say, it worked right out of the box.

I would like to point out I am having the same problem with the US version. The problem exists with firmware RE450(US)_V1_161202 and RE450(US)_V1_170111. I have to revert to RE450(US)_V1_160727 in order connect to the 5GHz network on my TP-Link Archer C7 V2 router.

I tried contacting support@tp-link.com. It was the most frustrating experience of my life. They tried to send me a replacement RE450, but ended up sending me a TL-WA855RE 300 Mbps Wi-Fi Range Extender that was addressed to a person who was not me. I had to return that incorrect replacement. I was then told they would redirect my item, which was shipped to Washington, to California where I live. It made its way down to Southern California before it was redirected back to Washington for some reason. I eventually asked them to just send me a second replacement because the first appeared to be in some recursive shipment loop between California and Washington. Once I received the replacement, I found it had the same problem once you applied the latest firmware. At that point I gave up on support@tp-link.com.

I am posting this in the hopes that someone at TP-Link still knows what they are doing and will solve this in a future firmware update.

What's the model.no of your main router? Get the two, still have the same issue, I think better to contact with their support to figure out what's the issue, so it won't happen again. .
Maybe it is not the extender issue, just caused by the actual environment or something

My router model has not changed since my previous post about what happened when I contacted their support. Also, the fact that, if I revert back to the older firmware, I am able to connect to the 5Ghz network suggests it is not an environment issue.
