Model: TL-WPA4220 KIT
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.4.0.20-00_422014_181207_902

My router is Netis - WF2780F Firmware ver. 2.0.10

I plugged the TL-PA4010 in, and connected it to my router. Next I paired the TL-WPA4220 and moved it to the other room. The wired/ethernet works fine, but after a couple for minutes the wifi on the TL-WPA4220 AND the wifi from my router stops working. The wifi stays connected, but I cannot ping other devices on the same LAN. I cannot even reach my router via its IP address. And obviously neither the TL-WPA4220's wifi nor my router's wifi has internet connectivity. If I unplug the TL-WPA4220, and wait a couple of minutes the wifi on my router starts working again (can ping other devices on LAN, can ping google...).

I tried the following:

  • Disable wifi on TL-WPA4220 by holding the button for 5 sec
  • Use WPA to copy my router's wifi settings to the TL-WPA4220
  • Update router firmware.
  • Update TL-WPA4220 firmware. This site TL-WPA4220kit Firmware clearly states tha I need to go to my regional site, and use that firmware, otherwise the warrany is void. If I go to ZA support download for TL-WPA4220kit there are no updates. So on the FW version (1.4.0.20-00_422014_181207_902) the device shipped with.
  • Used the tp-link PLC utility to disable power saving mode on both PA4010 and WPA4220
  • Moved the WPA4220 to a different power outlet

Any assistance will be appreciated

@Solla-topee I think this is fixed now

The problem was that my router is set to ip 192.168.1.1. It's DHCP assigns addreses 192.168.1.2-254. The WPA4220 also has a DHCP server. It dishes out IP's in the range 192.168.0.x. However, the WPA4220's DHCP cannot be controlled by the user. There is a period where both servers are active, and then there is basically a race between them. If a device gets an ip in the 192.168.0.x range, it will not work.

I fixed this by changing the router to 192.168.0.1 as well as its DHCP. Then I logged into the WPA4220 and changed it's IP tp static 192.168.1.254. Then I changed my router back to 192.168.1.1.

It is regrettable that the user has no control over this behaviour of the WPA4220.

@jmoraal

Hi, please help us confirm the below information.

Please check if the wired connection of both extender and router are working fine all the time even though the wireless connection has the issue.

When the issue happens, Please connect the extender's and router's Wi-Fi separately, then follow the instruction to check the IP address, default gateway on your device.

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/838/

For the firmware version of the extender, 181207 is the device shipped with.

Please follow the below instruction to enter the extender's management page to upgrade the firmware version of the extender with the bin file in the below link.

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/1092/

https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201904/20190428/TL-WPA4220(EU)_V4_190326.zip

May I know when you bought the powerline unit?

Look forward to your reply.

Have a nice day!

@Solla-topee I tried the FW update, but the issue persists. I'll get the rest of the info to you soon

I bought the kit yesterday (15 July 2020)

No problem. Although I'd like to see a firmware update from TP-link that provides more control over the DHCP
