Have you tested the wired connection speed on the laptop to see how much about the Ethernet speed?

As for the TL-WA850RE, it provides 300Mbps wireless associated speed and 300Mbps needs to be used to communicate with Virgin and PC that linked to the range extender; Therefore, data from router to PC passes through the WA850RE first and WA850RE needs to “receive” data from the router then “send” it to PC. Due to the half-duplex system, “receive” and “send” cannot be carried out simultaneously. In that case, the PC will get half of the speed.

So If wireless negotiation speed on PC is 300Mbps, then the maximum negotiation speed will be cut to 150Mbps on each side, and the final internet download speed will be cut down to 75Mbps due to communication loss. In other words, if a customer uses a 300Mbps range extender, the speed-test result on a PC that linked to the RE will be about 75Mbps.

And if you just bought the 850RE, it might not a suitable model for you and you could consider our dual-band range extender, like RE650, or RE305;
