Model: TL-WA850RE
Hardware Version: V7
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 200731 (came in built) upgraded again

I bought the extender and disappointed with my purchase. My router is giving 50 mbps while extender is only giving 16 mbps max. Do we have any solution or should I return the same ?

My router and repeater are in same room and just 2m apart. (for testing purpose) and repeater gave me 22 mbps while 49 mbps on my router.

LED shows full signal strength which is obvious because of close proximity.

This is not acceptable to have such degradation of speed within 2m range. I placed the repeater in midway and got 16 mbps. And as I moved away from repeater, the speed degraded to 7mbps.

@Aman007

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Have you tried to change the wireless channel of the home router, like channel 11 for 2.4ghz?

Theoretically, Data from router to PC passes through the WA850RE and WA850RE needs to “receive” data from router first then “send” it to PC.

Due to half-duplex system, “receive” and “send” cannot be carried out simultaneously, the final internet speed would be around 50%.

So range extender is mainly used to increase the wireless signal strengthen and  improve the wireless stability, not improve the speed.

Moreover, if you just bought the 850RE and the whole house is under the same electric meter, power-line adapters would be a better choice than signal-band range extender.

Thanks a lot.

@Solla-topee Hi, I changed the channels like 1, 7 and 11. The Max I could get is 22 - 25 mbps. I was expecting atleast 50mbps if not 100 (my base plan and speed I get from router).

With my router, link speed in properties is 150 mbps, while with extender, it is 72.2. Could this be culpritt ? Last night I saw 150 mbps for extender too but did not check speed at that time. I was playing with my router channel bandwidth back then. I did not change the settings and kept it at 40Mhz. But today morning, link speed from extender reduced to 72.2
