Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.5.1 Build 20201022 Rel. 66804

I have discovered that the main Deco in my setup does DNS queries for a couple of websites:

Dec 10 11:45:36 dnsmasq[80567]: query[A] facebook.com from 192.168.0.3
Dec 10 11:46:26 dnsmasq[80567]: query[A] reddit.com from 192.168.0.3
Dec 10 11:47:16 dnsmasq[80567]: query[A] bing.com from 192.168.0.3
Dec 10 11:48:56 dnsmasq[80567]: query[A] amazon.com from 192.168.0.3
Dec 10 11:50:36 dnsmasq[80567]: query[A] youtube.com from 192.168.0.3
Dec 10 11:57:16 dnsmasq[80567]: query[A] a.root-servers.net from 192.168.0.3

What is the reason for this? Why would an access point need to check out external websites?

Thanks.

@LittleBro

Hi

You could consider the Deco as an agent for the devices connected to its network.

It would forward the request on behalf of his clients to the NAT gateway.

Thank you very much.

@TP-Link that is not the case, since the clients go to the DNS server directly.

If the deco is acting as AP, why would it forward DNS requests - it's basically a wireless switch.
