Network drive attached to TPlink 2300 router appears as a media device
I've spent ages trying to get a Samsung T5 drive attached by USB to my TPLink 2300 router to work as networked storage over my wireless network. My laptop PCs apparently see the drive as a media device (MiniDLNA) and although I can see all the folders only files such as jpg and other media files are actually visible. If I turn off media streaming on the router settings the drive becomes inaccessible by windows. Any ideas please? Both my laptops are running Win10 version 1909.

Thank you for posting on the TP-Link Community.
Please kindly describe how did you access the Samsung T5 SSD drive, be aware that only the media files can be detected if you use media server to access it. Kindly show us the screenshot when you accessed the SSD.
BTW, how many files or folders in this SSD? Ensure you can visit all the files when you plug it directly into the computer.
What is the capacity and format of the Samsung T5 drive? Are there any other hard drive or SSD to perform a comparison?

What country or region is your C2300 router from?
I see that for the US and the EU versions of the C2300 V1 there are firmware updates available to add SMBv2 support.

I'm in UK. I downloaded and installed the most recent firmware but it didn't fix my issue and I can't see SMBv2 mentioned in the firmware description. The router was bought from Amazon only 13 months ago and I thought I was getting an up to date product.

Since the UK still fell under EU law up until a month ago I am pretty sure that your C2300 is a EU version.
Can you grab your C2300, flip it upside down and then have a look at the white sticker(s)? Beside serial number, MAC address, WiFi password there should be one line saying something like "Archer C2300 (XX) Ver. X.X". What does it say in place of the X's?

@woozle It says ver 1.1

OK. What about the XX inside the brackets? I would expect there should be something like EU, US, UK ... printed on the sticker somewhere, which determines what region's firmware you can use for updating.

@woozle It does say EU

Well, if you have an Archer C2300 V1.x EU version, then there is a firmware update available that claims to add SMBv2 support.
In case there is no link to it on TP-Link's UK website, then look for it at the Worldwide website or other EU county's websites.

@woozle I didn't see that on the UK site so I'll look on the others you suggest. Thanks.
