I have one unit connected to a mr-400 router by an ethernet cable the other unit is connected to my pc by an ethernet cable, I am getting 62mpps at the router and at the pc. The problem I am having is, If I try to connect my phone or laptop wirelessly my speed drops to 10mpps. What am I doing wrong?

May I know how much speed you could have if you wire a computer to the powerline extender. 

Speed will get reduced when signals being transited in the air and get reduced in the house powerline. 

If the wired speed is fine but only WiFi speed slow from powerline extender, you could login web and try a different 2.4Ghz channel and change channel width to 40Mhz and see if speed becomes higher.  (you could download Wi-Fi analyzer app or software to select a better channel )
