Accepted Manual Signal Source Selection on Deco
Background:
Some users might notice that all satellite Deco units are connected to the main Deco, instead of the nearest satellite Deco.
Typical Layout:
Why does the satellite Deco still keep selecting the main Deco as a signal source instead of the nearest satellite Deco?
Deco will choose the best signal source by itself. The selection does not depend absolutely on the signal strength, but also on the connection rate. Sometimes satellite Deco units may get slower speed due to half-duplex mode and interferences caused by connected devices like phones, or other devices. To ensure the satellite Deco gets reliable speed, the main Deco stays selected by Satellite Deco after comparative analysis.
Some users tested that after moving one of the satellites far enough and not being able to reach the main Deco, they finally get the desired connection map:
However, the speed of the satellite becomes slower than what it could get when connecting to the main Deco directly. Due to the working pattern and protocol/regulation of Wi-Fi technology, the more wireless hops, the slower the speed would be. This rule applies to any kind of mesh or extender system. So it is not always good to connect to the nearest Deco unit.

Will there be beta firmware for W3600 and W2400?
My W2400 keeps connecting the the furthest W3600 until I reboot it. Then it connects to the closer deco and my internet speed is great

Sorry, @TP-Link but you are incorrect.
As others have already pointed out and from my own testing.
The devices will _not_ connect in a daisy chain topology.
If the in a string like
A - B - C
if C is too far away from A in order to connect, it will under no circumstances connect to B. It simply can not find the network.
This is not how the product is advertised.
I hope there is an update in the works to enable this functionality as without it, these devices are not very useful.

@CalumHunter that's not true - my M4's at least do connect in a daisy chain configuration. It's not 100% every time, sometimes I have to reboot them in a specific order, but since FW 1.52 it has mostly worked without any trickery.
The issue I have is that one of my 4 Deco's is in a separate building which is barely in range of my main Deco. But it's not supposed to connect to that, since it's connected to Deco 3 (last in the wifi daisy chain) through powerline ethernet. When that happens, Deco 3 connects via Deco 4 which has a very flaky connection to Deco 1. Just rebooting Deco 4 fixes the setup, but it's annoying because it keeps reverting to that setup every now and then.
I specifically asked TP-Link (tagged in the post) in another thread about when a firmware with manual signal selection would be coming and they put thumbs up on the post, so I assume that means it is in the works and hopefully coming soon...

I have 3 Deco P9's and a Deco X20. The P9's would be better off meshing with a hardwired node in the first floor. Please can I request a beta firmware for P9/X20 V2. I am very disappointed with current performance, and the way that satelites are connecting to the main deco via WIFI, when the next room has a H/W 1gbps connection that they should daisy chain on.

Hi,
I already post in another thread about this issue... (https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/253374?page=7) but know one responds.
This is my setup:
3xDeco m4
1xDeco m3w
I have some devices inside green zone that always having loose wifi connection because won't stop connecting to the main router. Making the deco 2 as main router is not a possible since i have a 4 lte antenna connect to the internet router.
Around the garage i have a few iot shellys that still connecting to the main deco and for that, they still having a poor connection.
It's real important make possible choose the source for every single device, principal for people who has a lot of iot devices like me.
So make this happen asap pls.
Sorry for my poor english (just like yours software )

@TP-Link Hello, I think that the basic functionality that is missing and every one expected is to select the source of the signal in each deco. Because almost everyone in getting the same result of a deco conecting to the main one that is far away and we have another in the middle that have better signal.
My case is a very simple one that shows that it doesnt make any sanse how this deco conects. I have a house with 3 floors (500 square foot each). The main deco is in the first one and I have 1 in the second and another in the third. The big problem is that the 3rd one always try to conect to the main deco, loosing conections most of the time. With the last firmware update this became more frustating 1.5.2. What is the point of geting 3 deco if all want to conect to the main one.
Can you tell me how is the progress o the development for the source picking. Is there a walkaround to force the 3rd deco to conect to the 2nd one. I put the 2nd and the 3rd together whith the 2nd connected I reset de 3rd and when this one connected I it did to the 1st one .

I managed to get my Deco's to connect this way this morning! I just rebooted them in various orders until it went right.
Unfortunately I already know this won't stick for long, so hoping for an updated FW ASAP...
[UPDATE]
24 hours in, still connected the right way.

@TP-Link Is there a way to manually select/asign the signal source on the DECO-X20 3-PACK, as I have a 2 storey house, and the top story tries to connect to the main Deco that is the furest away, instead on the closest Deco, the top story Deco continually loses it's signal (flashes Red) and does not connect to the closest Deco which is 6mtrs away. Thanks
