Need to repalce L2TP with OpenVPN

As is now becoming standard L2TP is being dropped by many VPN providers.
I have just been informed that my VPN Provider is to do the same.
Is there a method to replace L2TP with OpenVPN within the router?
Alternatively can the router be converted to OpenWRT?
