Archer MR600 download speed not as fast as Galaxy S8 with same Usim
hi there,
i've recently bought an archer MR600, overall happy.
However i've noticed a large discrepancy of download speed with the same Usim inside the archer and my Samsung S8
S8: 190-200 mbps tested now, evening
Archer: 130 mbps (only in the morning), and at evening maxes out 80-90 and no more, i'm using CA, either 1 and 3 or 3 and 20 if 1's signal is not strong enough.
I am using the archer with an external BiFu antenna, which is pretty decent, no obstructions to the antenna of the provider which is just on the hill about 300m.
Tested with the 2x stock antennas as well right on the balcony in front of the ISP Mast - same story.
Why the speed test is so much higher on the S8? It's even from 2018 so quite "old" in that sense.
Is there any special setting that i can change/tweak? Does the S8 have better internal antennas?
thank you,
Gabrio

Hi, the Archer MR600 supports up to LTE Advanced Cat6 which could aggregate two carriers at most, while most smart phones support much higher LTE Category such as Cat19 or Cat20 etc, which could aggregate multiple carriers, thus the phone speed with the same SIM card might be higher than MR600.
To double check the bands working on your phone, you could also follow this guide to have a check: How to check the 4G band working on our smartphones

hi,
ok, that seems to be the case, i've ran the special secret menu of the S8 and it shows it aggregates 3 Channels in fact when doing a speed test, so that explains the higher speed.
So there's no way to have the Archer do the same? Can you make a new firmware to aggregate 3CA or more by chance?
Sad part is that it's rated at 300M but there's no way with 2CA only it will reach it here as each individual channel it's not strong enough.
Funny tho since my S8 is from 2018 so it's 5 years old. The archer is newer i think from 2021.
This is from GSM arena for the S8 -> LTE-A (4CA) Cat16 1024/150 Mbps
thanks,
Gabrio

Hi, for CAT6 product, only 2CA is supported, which cannot be changed via firmware update, if necessary, you will need to get higher LTE category products such as Deco X80-5G, which supports up to 5G NR and for 4G, it supports up to CAT20.
For more information about the Deco X80-5G, please refer to this thread: 5G SIM Mesh Router-Deco X80-5G

@gabrio And reading through the discussion in thread that was linked, seems there are serious flaws in the 5G models as well. I wouldn't touch TP-Link hardware again (trouble with MR600 FW still not resolved, after many years). Better try Mikrotek or Netgear Orbi...
