Model: Deco BE95
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hello, I have purchased 8x BE95 and setting it up.

- My internet is Bell Fibe 8gb, and using Bell Giga Home Hub (which has 10gb LAN port)

- My switch is QNAP 10G POE switch (qsw-m2116p-2t2s)

Question1) While I'm configuring hardwire backhauling, I came up with 2 options, what is considered to be better configuration in general? What are the pros and cons?

A) Bell Modem -> BE95 (Main) -> Switch -> 7x BE95's (Subs)

B) Bell Modem -> Switch -> ALL BE95's (Main and 7 Subs)

Question 2) Also my home internet line are mostly CAT6 but I have few CAT8 line installed (for future proof!)

Is it ok if some of BE95's are backwauled with CAT8 meawhile others are CAT6?

Hi, welcome to the community.

It is ok that some of BE95's are backwauled with CAT8 meawhile others are CAT6.

As for the wired/Ethernet Backhaul topology, Do you plan to set Deco BE95 into Access point mode considering the Bell Home Hub is also a router?

If you plan to set BE95 in AP mode, both work well, and plan B) sounds better.

If you want to keep BE95 in the wireless router mode, only the main Deco can be connected to the front modem/router, and plan A) is the only option.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

When I was using A), my ip was 192.168.68.X.

When I switch main router mode to AP and changed topology (Bell Modem - Switch - All AP's), my ip become 192.168.2.1 which is Bell's subnet.

For the speed and connectivity issue, I really fell no difference, both are very fast, 900mb ~ 1.2gb (http://fast.com)

I think both A) and B) are good and I can't find difference in the performance.

One thing I've noticed that now Bell is act like an router, also I've noticed that my DECO app has less features than router mode.

Now I have a new question, is that Bell Modem (Giga Home Hub) acting like router the best option? What's the difference having Bell as router VS designate one BE95 as main router?

One downside of the plan B) is that I am seeing some options are disabled in AP mode.

What are the benefit of BE95 being a router? especially in my situation I am comparing vs Bell Modem as a router.

ap mode

  @pinkman

Hi, the benefits depend.

Are there any advanced features that can't be missed from Bell?

For Deco, many advanced features are not supported in Access Point mode:

What’s the difference between Access Point mode and Router mode on the Deco?

I think the Bell Giga Home Hub works as a combination of a Fiber modem and wireless router.

Does it support bridge modem mode only?

If not, when using both Bell and Deco as routers, you will have the "Doudle NAT" issue, just like the different subnets you noticed earlier.

Double NAT

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP I haven't found the bridge mode, but found this. Should I turn DHCP off when I use BE95 router?

  @pinkman

Hi, I think we should it off and let BE95 run as the DHCP server.

Best regards.
