Model: Deco E4
Hardware Version: V4
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

Hi,

I just got my 2 Deco E4, but I can't get both to work.

My old mesh network died (other brand), it used to look like:

Router (Vodafone CGA6444VF), via cable connected: main node (in bridge mode), NAS, and switch (which had secondary node and some computers connected).

First I tried to connect my Decos the same way (in Access Point mode), but then the second node won't work. So I connected the switch to the main Deco second Ethernet port, then the second Deco managed to configure and work, but my computers (connected to the switch via ethernet) speed dropped from 200 Mbit/s to 20 Mbit/s... But when the second node isn't connected via cable to the first it just refuse to work, mostly I can connecto to it but get no Internet, sometime I get slow Internet and sometimes it's just turns red.

I need to have my wired devices and my wireless devices on the same network.

I've updated both nodes to latest Firmware (at least the app says it's the latest).

Solved my problem, I sent back the Deco units and bought Linksys Velop. Now everything works perfect and as expected!

  @Ewr-

Hi, May I know the model number of your network switch?

Can I have a picture of your current network topology, such as

                                                  /----NAS
Router (Vodafone CGA6444VF)-----Main Deco E4---switch---satellite Deco E4

Deco E4 has 2× 10/100 Mbps Ports so its maximum speed is up to 100m/s. Deco M4_V4 might be a more suitable model for 200m/s internet bandwidth.

Thank you very much and best regards.

This is how it used to look (before switching to Deco, and this was how I first tried to install my Decos), the switch with the access point is on the other side of the apartment and have the most high traffic units connected. All the connections are wired, we also have several laptops, tablets, phones etc. using WI-FI (via the mesh network, it's turned off in the router).

  @Ewr-

Hi, Thanks for the update.

Since it is related to Ethernet Backhaul and the switch is D-Link DGS-1005D, I think it might be related to Q6 here:

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/1794/

The Deco Ethernet backhaul feature is based on the standard IEEE 1905.1 protocol. However, we find that some switches, mainly the D-Link switches, will not forward packets based on IEEE 1905.1 protocol, causing all Deco units in a network loop and become quite unstable, you might consider changing another switch or contacting the switch’s support directly. TP-Link Switches are mostly compatible with our Deco’s Ethernet backhaul

Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi,

Q5

1. Please check if Deco has enabled the IPTV feature. And if yes, the selected IPTV port can't use to establish the ethernet backhaul, and it can be used for IPTV only.

IPTV is off

2. Please connect the satellite Deco to a different port on the Deco/Switch.

doesn't help

3. Try a different Ethernet cable.

doesn't help, the one connecting different rooms is NOT changable without unreasonable amount of work

4. Please connect two Deco units directly without the switch if there is one between the Deco units. If the direct connection works, the issue may be related to the switch.

work, but pointless and there's no other unit that has problem with the switch (including my old mesh), and there's only one ethernet connecting the router room with the other room.

Q6

1.Try a different port on the Deco/Switch. On the main Deco, one port should connect to the modem/router to get internet, another port can be used for Ethernet backhaul. You can swap the Internet port and the Ethernet backhaul port for a try.
using both ports (one connected to router and one to the modem) kills Internet on all units

2.Try a different Ethernet cable.
same as above

3.Please try connecting two Deco units directly by using one Ethernet cable, bypassing the switch. If the Deco units become stable. It's probably that you're using a switch that does not forward specific multicast packets.
no way to test, I don't have an other switch to test. It's a bit unreasonable that I need to buy new switches jsut to test, but is there an inexpensive model that is guranteed to work (with at least 5 ports and giga bit speed)?

Side not, why is the led on the units put on top where it's not visible?
