It is my first post here after I couldn't find a solution to my problem. Just wanted to confirm and get alternatives from the community.

 

I had a mesh in my home with an Archer AX20 v1.20 + AC750 RE200, working relatively well. Since it was connected through Ethernet cable (eth backhaul), the wifi connection in the RE zone was capped at 100mbps because of the non-gigabit port of the RE.

 

Also I needed some more Ethernet ports to connect other devices that the RE couldn't deliver, so I decided to buy a AX55 Pro to upgrade my local network. My idea was to set the AX55 Pro as main router and replace the AC750 RE with the AX20, create the mesh network with Ethernet Backhaul and to have the extra eth ports at the AX20 location.

 

Without any previous research (my bad!), I encountered that the AX55 Pro came with EasyMesh instead of the OneMesh of the AX20, and after going thought the set up process, I found the following reading:

"1. Make sure your routers support EasyMesh or OneMesh. A firmware update may be required for earlier OneMesh models to support router-router networking."

 

Ok then, EasyMesh could work with OneMesh, let's check the firmware: My hardware version can't be updated for the EasyMesh feature up to the date.

 

From the AX55 I can see the AX20 to add as a Satellite, but after the "Adding" process who last about 3 minutes, it fails saying:

 

"Unable to add this device. Try the following:
  • 1. Plug in the device closer to the main router, preferably within 10 feet (3 meters), then try again.
  • 2. Someone else is trying to set up a OneMesh network. Please try again later.
  • 3. Reset the device and try again."


My second move was to leave the AX20 as a main router (as it was before), trading off the benefits of the AX55 Pro, but creating the mesh network with the best router as extender. For that I'm trying to change the AX55 as "Satellite Mode" but for some reason everytime I do that, the router reset itself to Factory (it ask me for a new administration password and goes to quick setup process). So, it can't enter in Satellite mode.

 

Anyway, when I go to the OneMesh section of the AX20 it finds the AX55 but when I click on "Add" it says "Operation failed" and the mesh network it is not created. Not sure if the reason is that the AX55 is not in Satellite mode or what.

 

Questions:

- Do you think a firmware update will be possible for the AX20 v1.20 for EasyMesh and Backhaul Ethernet anytime soon? I saw it is already available for some similar devices.

- Is it neccesary the Satellite Mode on the AX55 for set the OneMesh network? What could be the reason the configuration fails?
- Is Archer "AX1800 v1.2" equivalent to "AX20 v1.2"?

- In the following list I see that the "Archer AX1800_V1.2 1.1.0 Build 20230725" without Update date. Does it mean it will be added in the future?

The correct model of your router is on its bottom sticker - details.

There were succewssful attempts by users to setup wireless backhaul mesh between Onemesh main router and Easymesh satellite router.

To be able to do that use the WPS method but first reset AX55 Pro to its factory defaults by the reset button (press for about 10 seconds).

Hi  @terziyski!

 

It worked for the Wireless Mesh, thanks. But not for the Ethernet backhaul mesh. For some reason when I connect the cable to the lan port in the AX55 Pro, it start to work (and works much better than the wireless) but after some time the "internet light" changes from green to red and in that moment the connection halt. Doing some ping tests, I start to loss packets and the connection is very inestable. When the light turn back green, connection works again but only last for a few minutes.

 

Is it possible some IP conflict? What I feel is that the AX55 is trying to connect to the mesh network from both method, wifi and ethernet, and then making an ip conflict (pure guess without any fundamental). Is it possible to turn off the wifi connection to the mesh? I think is a test it worth the try.

 

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

For ethernet backhaul to work both devices must support that.

AX20 v1.2 is a Onemesh capable router. Check Q5/A5 from Onemesh FAQ.

You are doing everything right!

set router to satellite, it resets to factory and just leave it and dont enter its web interface!

wait for one minute and go to main souter and add it to mesh!

Ethernet backhaul works, but time with instability. AX20 was working fine with RE200 by ethernet. Here the test I'm doing:

 

- I connect my laptop through Ethernet cable to AX55 Pro, to minimize that wifi connection latency.

The moment I plug the cable in the AX55, the ping time changes from ~3ms to ~1ms, that's how I now ethernet backhaul is working. The problem is the disconnections that happens time to time. Solving that instability should make a much better mesh.

You are doing everything right!

set router to satellite, it resets to factory and just leave it and dont enter its web interface!

Hi  @YuriyB 

 

I could set the mesh wireless with the WPS Method and resetting the router to factory with the button. Is it the same as changing to "Satellite Mode" by the UI?

 

Right now the part is missing is the Ethernet backhaul.

1. go to satellite router web ui and set it in onemesh as satellite, wait until it reboot and dont touch it

2.go to main router click add onemesh device and wait until it will appear. 

3. you can connect them with cable

I did as you mentioned but it says "Operation Failed" when I try to add it:

 

Tried to add it with and without cable (routers next to each other) but it is the same, it fails. Also tried from Tether app.

 

Any other suggestion?

1)go to AX20 and Try remove easymesh router

2)go to AX55 and set it to satellite, it will reset and dont enter its web interface! just dont touch it

3)disconnect any lan cables from  on satellite AX55

4)go to MAIN ax20 web interface, click add satellite and wait 30seconds until AX55 will appear.

finish.

after adding you can connect them with ethernet cable

Hi  @YuriyB 

 

I started over, Factory Reset to both router, then I follow your steps. In step 4 I can't add the AX55 to the OneMesh, the only way to do it is with the WPS method. I did it, and moved the AX55 to the second location and plug the Ethernet cable in lan port.

 

It works but very unstable. Its disconnect and reconnect very often, causing microcuts and terrible web experience. I know that it is working over Ethernet for 2 reasons: ping times around 1ms to lan devices and when I check the Network Map on AX20, it's showing ethernet connection for devices that I know for sure they are on wifi (AX55 location), like my smartphone.

 

But now I'm trying a workaround that seems to be working. My guess is that the microcuts its related to some kind of ip conflict between the wireless and ethernet connection of the AX55. So, I blacklisted the MAC Addresses of the AX55 in the main router and turned off the OneMesh fuction. For some unknow reason it's working flawless so far. Ping times ~1ms and full ISP bandwidth in the AX55 location. Maybe you can understand better why this workaround is actually working.

 

I will monitor some more hours and confirm here if still working.
