It sometimes takes minutes before TX20U Plus USB adapter is found after Windows 11 startup

Hi,
I have the Archer TX20U Plus USB adapter for a while now. From day 1 I have problems that I am trying to solve.
The device works perfectly if it is found by Windows 11 and connected to WiFi. So no problems then.
However, it can sometimes take minutes for the device to activate after starting up my laptop. I turn on my laptop, Windows is loading and sometimes the light on the adapter turnes on after a few seconds and there is a connection, but other times it takes minutes before the light turnes on and there is a connection (after logging in Windows).
I've already done everything. I have completely uninstalled Bitdefender, I have disabled the Microsoft antivirus and Firewall, I have disabled all services (except Microsoft), I have disabled all other software via the Autoruns program, but the problem still persists.
The same thing also happens when I am in Windows. When I remove the adapter from the USB port and reconnect it after a few seconds. Sometimes the light turnes on almost immediately, other times it takes minutes.
The USB port is good because I have a wired mouse and when I connect it to that USB port I always have a direct connection. Even if I take it in and out several times in a row.
What else can I do? Is this a known problem? This is impossible to work with. When I turn on the PC, I want Internet immediately and not want to wait for minutes.

Hi,
Does your laptop only have one single USB-A port?
By the way, if that USB port is an USB 3.0 port, then the mouse functioning properly doesn't tell much, because the contacts used by USB 3.0 (which the TX20U Plus will utilize) are completely separate from the contacts the USB mouse uses. To see what I mean just hold the USB plugs of both devices right next to each other and peek inside them.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad L340-17IRH 81LL003AMH.
It has:
• 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1
• 1x USB-C® 3.2 Gen 1
• 1x HDMI 2.0
• 1x Ethernet (RJ-45)
• 1x Headphone / microphone combo jack (3.5mm)
• 1x Power connector

Does that answer your question?

Okay, so your laptop has two USB ports the TX20U Plus will fit into.
Do you experience the behavior you've described (i.e. long delay) equally with both USB ports?

@woozle Yes I experience the same behavior in the other USB port. Also a long delay sometimes.

This is definitely not a known problem. I am not aware of anyone else reporting this previously for the TX20U Plus (or any other USB Wi-Fi adapter).
In case you are able get hold of another computer, then test your TX20U Plus with that other computer and see what happens.
If it turned out that your TX20U Plus shows the same problem when connected to another different computer, then you might want to think about a warranty replacement.

@user458463 I would also like to report that I am having the same problem, but I have a TX21UH. If I do a true shut down in Windows, the next time it boots it can take 2-3 minutes for the adapter to even get the blue light and connect. if I cycle the USB connection it comes up. BUT, if I put the PC to sleep, when the PC wakes up it connects right away.

I have the same annoying issue on my window10.
What I noticed is it appears that the installation is not being registered correctly. When it occurs, there is no light on the wifi adapter. I can see the device appears as a external drive "TP-Link". I am not able to see the "TP-link wireless USB Adapter" in device manager. I can manual re-run the driver setupinstall.exe file to re-install, when prompted "Setupinstall is already setup! Overwrite it?" answer Yes. System will then recognise the wifi adapter, then it will start working. Once it works, external drive "TP-Link" disappear and "TP-link wireless USB Adapter" appears in device manager. I can shutdown my PC and reboot, and most of the time the adapter will still works correctly. However, if PC is shutdown for a long time like a day, the next time I boot up, the issue occurs again. It is as if the installation was not done completely.

Okay, this was not mentioned previously here in this thread.
If you see an additional drive showing up on your computer after plugging in the TX20U Plus (or after powering up the computer with the TX20U Plus already plugged in), then it means the TX20U Plus is a dual-mode device.
Basically, the TX20U Plus contains a drive on which the driver software is stored and a Wi-Fi adapter, but only one function can be active at a time. This is an annoying trend that more and more manufacturers are following. Ideally the device should switch itself to Wi-Fi adapter mode automatically if the Wi-Fi driver is already installed, but apparently that is not happening.
So, if your TX20U Plus happens to be in "drive" mode, but you want to use it as a Wi-Fi adapter, then you have to "Eject" the drive (in Windows Explorer right-click the drive or use the "Eject" feature in the task bar) and that should switch the TX20U Plus to Wi-Fi adapter mode immediately.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, it did not work for my case. After I "eject" the TP-Link drive, it does not auto activate the wifi adapter. I tried run the installsetup.exe, it also did not do any thing this time. I had to unplug physically and reconnect before the wifi adapter gets actived. So, this is even more annoying. I will just have to live with it and run the nstallsetup.exe every time.

I wonder if formatting the drive would stop it?
