Model: Archer BE230
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 Build 20240912 rel.12553(4555)

Hello! I purchased a TP-Link Archer BE230 router and encountered some issues that I didn't have with ASUS routers. I have been using only ASUS routers for over 10 years. With my old router, I used a USB hard drive for Samba, formatted in ext4, and the ASUS router recognized it without problems. However, the TP-Link Archer BE230 doesn’t recognize the hard drive if it’s formatted in ext4. I also tried the exFAT format, but it still wasn’t detected. After formatting the hard drive to NTFS, it was recognized, but after restarting the router, it was no longer detected. I should mention that I tested several external hard drives, and they all have the same issue. I also have two ASUS routers at home, which do not have this problem. I would like to know if this router could be defective so that I know if I should return it to the store where I bought it.

Hello, I have received two emails from TP-Link on my email address. What should I do now? Should I wait for someone to contact me? I have also talked to TP-Link Romania, the distributor in the country where I purchased the router, and if the issue is not resolved, I will return this router within the 30-day legal period and switch back to ASUS. I used an ASUS router for over a year with a 1 TB hard drive connected via USB, formatted in ext4, and using Samba, without any issues. ASUS has a mature firmware that actually works without bugs. It’s pointless for the Archer BE230 router to have good hardware if the software is full of bugs.

Hello, currently, the hard drive is recognized only if formatted as NTFS; EXT4 still doesn't work. Is there any way to make it recognized when formatted as EXT4 as well? I use Linux, and EXT4 is more advantageous for me than NTFS. What should I do now, stay with this beta version?

@UsAdrian

Happy to hear that the USB drive works properly now in NTFS.

However, the router currently doesn't support the EXT4 format. You can check the USB specifications at the link below:
