Model: RE305
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.1 Build 20190221 Rel. 63495

My host router from ISP Ziggo in Netherlands and the issue with RE305 v3 is only with connecting to the 5GHz host network on a secured mode. I changed the host router security settings between WPA2-PSK & WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK and suitably changed it RE305 extender, but no luck with RE305 getting connected on 5GHz network. Only if there was no security set in host router for the 5GHz connection, RE305 is able to connect on the 5GHz network and obviously that cannot be solution due to snooping / unsecure connection. When RE305 does the scanning it is able to find the 5Ghz netwok though. So don't suspect an issue with the 5Ghz channel settings either - it is set to 802.11 a/n/ac mixed mode on channel 48.

I had a different problem with RE305 v1 and exchanged the router with the retailer and just got a new one which was RE305 v3. In fact for 6 months had range extender setup working fine in RE305 v1, but two weeks ago it started giving the problem with no internet connection after you connect to the network on the extendeter. It's a pity that I now have a problem on day 1 with a new RE305 v3 version - does not go well with confidence on the brand

Firmware is also the latest and factory reset is also not helping. Seems to be a bug in the firmware to me (not able to deduce anything else). WPS mode also did not work fyi. Has anyone else faced the issue ?

If there is no solution to this, i might have to dump this all together and go for another brand

@AnkitThakkar

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Recently, we had some feedbacks about 5Ghz not detectable with HG8145V5 HUAWEI.

With the assistance of our customers, it is more related to the 5Ghz channel issue.

RE305(EU) did not support band 4(channel 149-165), only band1 (channel 36-48) yet, and HG8145V5 HUAWEI, most of the time is stuck on channel 149.

So it would highly be appreciated that you could contact the router support to change the 5ghz channel, such as channel 36;

 Thanks a lot.

@Deep09 Hello every one,

As this thread is a bit old, we suggest starting a new thread with case here and we could try to help look into the concern further.

Case 1: RE is not detecting 5Ghz Signal:
Kindly refer to this thread and change router' s 5Ghz channel to 36/40/44/48 with the help from router's support.

[Troubleshooting] TP-Link Range Extender is not detecting the 5GHz Signal of the Main Router
https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/265818

Case2: RE could see router's 5Ghz but failed to connect to 5Ghz:

1) Double-check the 5Ghz Wi-Fi password, and users could verify 5Ghz wifi password by forget and reconnect 5Ghz Wi-Fi on the phone:

Go to Settings-> WiFi on your phone, Tap (or Long press  the router's 5Ghz WiFi name  ->Forget / Delete the network
Please reconnect to your router 5Ghz wifi and it will ask for a password, will it accept your router password?

2)Change 5Ghz wireless security to WPA/WPA2-PSK (AES recommended)
And try 5Ghz channel 36/40/44/48

If the issue persists, please start a new thread here with the information below to help locate the fix the issue.

1- model and hardware version & country version (EU/ US/ UK etc.)of your device

2- model of router

3- photo of router's 5Ghz wireless settings

@tesla-s3xy

Sorry for the inconvenience, we will do some troubleshooting first and try to fix it.

So now the RE305 V3 won't be able to connect to the secured 5GHz network, right?

First, please reset it one more time by holding the reset button/hole for 1s with the extender powered on,

Then click here to set it up with the main router's wifi password.

After that, please verify the led status; especially the 5ghz.

If still the same, please login  to the web UI of RE305 and go to settings-system tools-system log to save the log and send the txt file to us.

Besides what is the model number of the main router?

Thanks in advance, and have a nice day.

Re:Re:RE305 v3 Not able to connect to 5GHz host network

@Kevin_Z , yes that's correct.  RE305 V3 is not able to connect to the secured 5GHz network alone on the host router.  Connecting to secure 2GHZ network or connecting to open/unsecure 5GHZ on the same host router however works without any issues

Did all things possible in addition to what you mentioned - Hard reset by pressing the button continously, Firmware downgrade and firmware upgrade back to latest version from https://www.tp-link.com/nl/support/download/re305/#Firmware. However the extender is not connecting the secured 5GHz network. Configuration snapshot below and after I save this, i can't see any LED light against 5GHZ . I am always using only a browser UI via an PC to do the setup

There is nothing much in the syslog either - all avaialble logs mentioned below. I have masked the MAC address of my PC here but all it shows is the connection between DHCP server in the extender and my PC connected via ethernet (concluded it from the MAC address seen). Is there a way to enable better logging ? As far as i can see no error has been recorded

The host router is a wireless modem router provided by the broadband provider Ziggo in Netherlands (https://www.ziggo.nl/klantenservice/wifi/modem/connect-box/). I have never had issue with any PC / Phone / Any other device to connect to this 5GHZ networrk. On additional checks the model number seems to be Compal CH7465LG (https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Compal_Broadband_Networks_CH7465LG-LC)

Let me know if this is an inherent problem in the extender and whether I should go back to retailer to claim a refund
