HS100 Remote Control Fales - Invalid Device
I recently purchased a pair of HS100 smart switches, they both initially set up without a problem.
I had to change the name of one switch due to it being moved to a different room on the same network and phone (Samsung Galaxy Note 8)
After I changed the name the switch displays "Local Only" on the phone app.
When I enter the device settings on the phone app to switch the remote control on an error message pops up that says "failed: invalid device"
I have removed the device from the app, removed the entire app, reset the device to factory state over and over, even rebooting my phone between tries.
Nothing has worked so far to fix the issue and on looking at other posts I see I am not alone with this issue.

@Kiwifruit Something must be different :). Very unlikely to be a hardware fault - the devices either work or they don't. If it's not firmware levels and the device LED isn't flashing, it might be the sticker (as I said, don't believe the sticker - look at the MAC reported by your router for the switch on it's status page - the sticker might be showing the AP MAC). If that's not it it must be your router configuration. You did mention "for security purposes", that sure sounds like blocking/filtering of some kind - maybe not MAC filtering but perhaps it's preventing the switch from reaching the internet.

Hello, we found that the MAC address does not match, now we have fixed it and you can verify whether the remote control works well right now.
Good day.

@Kiwifruit I just installed an HS200 Smart Switch, today, and had the exact same issue with the "failed: invalid device" message. I chatted with tech support, and they could not help me either. If you have found a solution, I would greatly appreciate you letting me know.

Good day,
Thanks a lot for your time and patience.
We had received this feedback recently and our engineers are working on it right now.
And there would be a temporary workaround:
Please try to enable remote control in Kasa APP again after 2 days.
And If you still cannot turn on the remote control feature at that time, please feel free to update it here.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

I am having the same issue. The Mac address on the switch is different than what the app or my router says. I install an Hs200. Actually two of them. One works as intended with no issues. The other will not allow remote control. Says local only, while the other doesn't even have that option. Help.
