Hi all, can anyone share their experience with the HS200 controlling a fan/light combo, i ask specifically due to the starting current of the fan which is around 3.3A, running around 0.7A. i.e can the switch handle this instantaneous start up current or does it damage the switch long term?

@MikeP007

Home appliances with motors like fans will generate instantaneous peak power.

HS200 could handle:

  • 1/6 Horsepower (around 124W) for devices in which electric motors are used
  • 600W for Incandescent/ LED

For HS200 longer life span, make sure your device power consumption is within the above value.

Note that please always refer to TP-Link official website for the detailed spec as the value could be different for different versions/ in different areas: https://www.tp-link.com/home-networking/smart-switch/hs200/#specifications

We have an FAQ mentioned the instantaneous power : Q13
