It is disappointing to see a product that claims to worry about security, and then clearly not understand how nonsecure something is. The smart plug won't let you connect to a wifi that doesn't have a password, but it is not capable of connecting to enterprise type wifi security (radius, mschap, etc.). If you only allow dumb password protected wifi, why not just allow unsecured wifi and encrypt your communication instead of making it impossible to use your device.

The Tapo Smart Plug required to work with a secured Wi-Fi network the unsecured Wi-Fi, think about the situation someone may access and control the local devices over the unprotected Wi-Fi network. 

For now Tapo plug supports WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, and WPA3 for wireless security as mentioned in QA here.
