Kasa App Slow to Load and Use
For several months now, the Kasa Smart app has been very slow to load and control lights on my iPhone 11 Pro Max iOS 16.1. This behavior is the same on other phones in the network that control these devices. Every device has been removed and added back to our robust wifi network with no change in performance. We have updated the app (currently on 3.1.2 Build 1318) every time hoping this lag has been addressed. We have rebooted our phones several times.
Every time I open the app, it starts at the Kasa green splash screen as if it is loading for the first time. This may take 8-15 seconds before presenting the devices. Once the devices are visible to control (not grayed out), it may take several taps to turn a smart plug (HS103 fw1.1.4) on or off. This is also the case for other Kasa smart devices in my library (KP303 fw 1.0.11). Each tap on a different device is slow to respond to on/off commands or when navigating into the device to check/change the schedule etc.
We are close to removing the Kasa Smart Plugs on devices we control the most due to the poor response time and increasing frustration of turning lights on/off.
Our network is not saturated with devices (21 Kasa Smart Plugs) and the wifi is not competing with other nearby radios for clear channels. All of the devices are on the 2.4GHz wifi and our phones are on both the 2.4 and 5GHz signals, all on the same subnet with no network isolation or firewall between the devices and phones. Bandwidth utilization is very low, less than 15% on average. Router/radio CPU is less than 10% and RAM is steady at 80%. Our other smart devices operate without issues (smart TVs, thermostat and audio receiver).
Please fix the slow app performance so we can enjoy using the Kasa Smart Plugs again.
