What the...

I set up everything beforehand and then go to the location where I will use camera. Wall mount and try to change WiFi and it's not possible. Can't believe this. I'm pretty sure that seller don't take back camera because it's already used. This WiFi change feature is basic setup thing and now i have readed from here that TP-link has got feedback long time and it's not fixed????

@celeritas_216 came back to check and see if this has been updated. I overcame this hurdle of using the camera in 2 homes by making the wifi password the exact same. Problem solved so I thought...now i went to add a new TP automation to Alexa and a new compatible light which required 2.4 so i connected it to 2.4 and updated the information only to have that command somehow take ALL of the TP cameras offline because they cannot connect to the network that they're supposed to remember. I did not change ALL of the cameras and this feature to change the network all at once is not supposed to exist. Yet somehow here I am with 5 cameras that I'm supposed to relink one at a time for an issue I do not know how I arrived at. These cameras need to be removed from the Amazon app as they are just more of the same advanced technology completely hindered by an outdated concern.

@njgirl  If your cameras all disconnect from home Wi-Fi suddenly, try to reboot your router, reboot the cameras, and check if they will reconnect to the home Wi-Fi.

  @Contraband

My problem is the same and I need to change the cameras network many times, depending if I am connected to my slow adsl internet or to my 4G router when I have data.

Do you find it reasonable to reset and set up 6 cameras so many times?

This is ridiculous for the amount of money I have paid for these cameras. I have a cheap Sricam and I can simply select the network I want by selecting it on the settings.

This is really disappointing, I have paid a ton of money in this company for routers, switches, mesh, access points, repeaters, cameras, smart devices and you can't make as simple thing to help so many people asking for it.

Unfortunately if this won't resolved soon, I will have to sell my cameras and this will come along with a lot of negative feedback.

@nickgt  you can try to set the same 2.4G Wi-Fi name, password, and wireless security type on the adsl internet and 4G router, then the camera may connect to the adsl internet or 4G router without resetting and set up again. You can try rebooting the camera if it does not connect to the adsl internet or 4G router automatically.

@Contraband This isn't obvious, but there is an easier way.

If your camera is still connected to a working Wi-Fi, you can reset it remotely!

Simply open your Tapo app, find the device which is on the wrong but working Wi-Fi, then tap on Remove Camera. This will reset the camera immediately. You'll lose all settings, but the recordings in microSD will be intact.

But what if the Wi-Fi the camera used before is not working anymore?

If you know the Wi-Fi name and password the camera used to connect to before, just create a new Wi-Fi with the same name and password, so the camera can connect again.

Some routers allow you to create a "guest network" so this feature can be used to re-create the same Wi-Fi. Otherwise, just change your main network's name and password temporarily. Remove the camera from Tapo app, then change your main network's name and password again to the new one.

Be sure to use the same encryption. Once the camera connects again, use the Tapo app (as explained above) to reset the camera.

I don't remember the Wi-Fi name and password. (or I removed the camera in Tapo app while it's not connected.)

Then you have no choice but to put a ladder near your camera, climb up and physically press the RESET button (while the camera is powered on).

Advice for Future:

If you plan to change router or change Wi-Fi for any reason, remember to always remove the camera in Tapo app first, before you disconnect the old Wi-Fi or router.

PS: Yes, I know some of you want to change the Wi-Fi frequently, and it's unfortunate that you cannot change it without resetting the camera. The device is more suitable for those who use it at home or office, on a Wi-Fi that's unlikely to change for a long time. It's not suitable for frequent location changes or for travel. I hope TP-Link will fix this in future though, as they are indeed limiting their market with this inability.

BTW for those who switch between two types of connections (like mobile data vs DSL or fiber), perhaps you can consider having the same Wi-Fi name and password on both connections (but use only one at a time). Although I would just have the camera connected permanently to the stable always-on network even if it's slower than mobile data. Anyway, you can still remotely access it on mobile data via Tapo app. The camera itself doesn't need to be on mobile data.

Is this a specific limitation of Tapo C500 or it's the same of other Tapo cameras?

@ADTC dont go around spreading misinformation. Removing the camera does not reset the device (infact the various warning does not mention resetting the device). Result: the camera won't be able to connect anymore and you have to climb to wherever the camera is and press the reset button.
Before suggesting something atleast try to test what you are suggesting instead of posting this chatgpt generated answer
