Solution Tapo Doorbell D235/D225/TD25's Spotlight Doesn't Turn Off Automatically in Doorbell Mode
This Article Applies To
- Model: Tapo D235/Tapo D225/TD25 V1.0
- Firmware version: 1.1.13 and 1.1.14
- The doorbell is hardwired-powered and set to Always On mode
Description
When Tapo doorbell is set to Doorbell Mode in Night Mode Settings (doorbell Device Settings page > Video & Display > Night Mode Settings), the spotlight will turn on automatically when someone rings the doorbell and turn off automatically when no movement is detected (enter infrared mode).
However, if your doorbell is one of the model mentioned above and meets the specified conditions, you might encounter an issue where the spotlight fails to turn off automatically and stays on continuously.
Note: the doorbell's LED indicator is NOT the same as the spotlight. When the LED (indicator) is set to Auto, it will light up when movement is detected or when watching the doorbell live stream. And it has several color options. On the other hand, the doorbell mode turns on the spotlight, which will be much brighter than the LED indicator.

Solution
Fixed in firmware 1.1.15 and 1.1.16 versions.

@Wayne-TP Got it. So this is for the spotlight only. I see that the color light around the button is always on, is this an expected behavior ?

That's the spotlight, which also function as the status led. You can customize the led setting in doorbell device setting page.

@Wayne-TP Hi, so my nightmode is set to doorbell on my D235, and the LED setting to Auto, but the spot light still doesnt turn off when hardwired? Is this expected behaviour for the LED setting in Auto and hardwired?
When not hardwired the spot light behaves as stated in the AUTO setting and turns off.
Im on the latest firmware (as posted above 1.1.16)

How's the spotlight turned on in the first place? Did you stand in front of it? Note that the spotlight will also turn on when movement is detected or watching the liveview.

Are you able to turn it off through the liveview page? After the light is turned off, try to trigger it again then monitor whether the light will turn off automatically later.
If your doorbell is not in the Always-on mode, the way to perform tests is different:
1. If the wake-up setting is 'event detected': wake up the doorbell by moving in front of the doorbell.
2. If the wake-up setting is 'doorbell pressed': press the doorbell.
After the doorbell spotlight turns on, step out of the doorbell's camera range, and be sure not to open the camera live page on your phone during this time. Then, observe for a while (approximately 2-5 minutes) to see if the spotlight will automatically turn off.

@Wayne-TP Hi, Ive had another firmware update since (ver 1.1.19) and done the following test:
1. During the day checked through liveview page the spot light setting is off but the LED is lit always. Ive turned the spot light on and can see the light intensity change. the intesity of the light turns down when I turn off the spot light in liveview. The LED light stays on constantly even if no trigger events are present is this normal behaviour?
2. During the night the LED light is on constantly and the door bell setting doesnt impact this. The spot light intensity doesnt change on triggers. So I have full colour recording when set night mode to doorbell mode. I've checked through the night recording and its full colour no matter the time of night. But setting night mode on the camera to infrared mode records in black and white but the LED is lit consantly.
My settings are
LED = Auto
Night mode setting = Doorbell mode
Always on mode = On
