Firmware Version:

Struggling with my setup....I have one bulb L510B in my lounge, trying to set up another upstairs. It says connected, the WiFi is strong but it doesn't seem to be happy about something......I go to the WiFi settings and it has a lightbulb on there but only the downstairs one. No idea why this silly thing is not working......why does it say  connected if it clearly isn't connected.   Any ideas anyone? Help before I lose the plot!

Please go through the configuration in the Tapo app. The configuration isn't done just by connecting to the smart bulb WiFi.

Yeah, definitely make sure you go through the full setup process in the Tapo app, but also check a couple of things that might be messing with the connection:

  1. Some routers have a limit on the number of connected devices. If you have a lot of smart home gadgets, your new bulb might be struggling to get an IP address. Try disconnecting an unused device temporarily and see if it helps.

  2. Tapo bulbs only work on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so if your router has both 2.4GHz and 5GHz under the same SSID, the setup can get confused. Try turning off 5GHz temporarily during setup or connecting from a device that's definitely on the 2.4GHz band.

  3. The app may show a strong signal, but interference from walls, electronics, or neighboring Wi-Fi networks can cause issues. Try moving the bulb temporarily closer to the router to see if it connects properly there. If it does, you might need a Wi-Fi extender upstairs.

  4. If all else fails, reset the bulb by turning it on/off 3-5 times until it blinks. Then, remove it from the Tapo app before setting it up again from scratch.
