Despite a schedule being set for 00:30-5:30 (5 hrs) it always switched off after 2 hours. If I wake up at 2am I will see a message saying it will go off at 2:30. I can then cancel that spurious OFF timing and it continues happily until 5:30. 
 

Why is it introducing an OFF timing after two hours?

It seems like the auto-off timer is on, you may check it in the app. How to Set up Schedule, Away Mode, and Timer for Smart Plug/Bulb/Switch in Tapo App
