TAPO D235 constantly going offline

Tapo D235 dooebell which is only a couple of weeks old is always going offline and telling me it can't communicate at the moment. It has a wifi signal speed of 31mps and -47 RSSI quality. it is situated less than a metre from the signal sender and the signal only has to go through one pane of glass. Does this indicate there is a problem with the unit (bought direct from manufacturer) or is there something I can do to get it to stay connected? At the moment it seems to have a mind of its own(AI maybe) and only connects when it wants to. Any help would be appreceiated before I give up and box it up for return, thank you in advance.
As a add on to this post, I also get a message saying 'Network unstable' and I can see above the live stream picture(when I can get one) the KB's figure constantly changing, ranging from 0 to 375Kb's. Not sure what this means if anything or what to do about it as my wifi is rock solid everwhere I test it including infront of the doorbell.

@900Sport
Hi All, I'm afraid the situation remains the same, the bell still randomly goes off line and there is no way I can predict or link it to anything. I'm presently in the process of changing broadband supplier which should take place on June 24th. As requested by support I've sent them the App Log so will see if there are any developments forthcoming.

@900Sport Are you changing your Sky router soley because of the doorbell issue? Would be very interested to hear if the new service providers router keeps the D235 constantly connected, please kindly keep in touch, if it stays stable and connected I too would look at moving Sky to a new provider..Regards..

Did I read somewhere that if you turn off 5ghz or separate the SSID's so the 5ghz is different from the 2.4ghz it works OK?
I mean you should not need to do this, but if it solves the problem....

@Steveb26 Hi Steve, my mesh WiFi system combines both 2.4 and 5 ghz networks but also offers a distinct 2.4ghz "IoT" dedicated network.
I have my doorbell connected to the combined network so should probably switch to the dedicated 2.4ghz network.
Is that easy to do? I don't see an option in the settings to switch WiFi network.
Also, the Tapo app is absolutely killing the battery in my Android Pixel 9 Pro Xl. Anyone else experiencing large battery drain from the Tapo app?

@BenEadir I have split/separated my 2.4 and 5 frequencies on my Sky SR203 router but still had connection issues with my D235 dropping connection. Just awaiting yet another replacement 235 from Tapo following yet another bricked device on pressing reset button, they accept there are major stability/connection issues with D235 and engineers are working hard to fix all the current problems !

@BetterDays2972 Thanks, that's good to know.
I might try switching to the dedicated 2.4ghz network just to see if it changes anything but can't see how to change WiFi network in the settings. Anyone got any tips?

Ref resetting wifi, you basically have to set the doorbell up again. There is no way to change wifi feed into the doorbell any other way.

@BenEadir and that was where my bricking problems arose with my 2 x D235s after having the latest beta firmware update (from May 2025) installed on my first and second device when I pressed reset button it kept bricking the doorbells..just for info of anyone with that beta firmware installed be wary of pressing reset as I believe there is a bug in the beta firmware causing bricking of device ..

@BetterDays2972 Thanks for the tip. The Tapo app on my Chromebook (which I use as a front door 24/7 streaming monitor) has actually operated without any connection drops for the last 24 hours or so. I doubt there's been a firmware update (would I even notice given I have auto update turned on) which has fixed the issue I'm having but for now it's working fine so fingers crossed!!!
