D210 & C410 can only be controlled locally
D210 & C410 can only be controlled locally
Looking for help with 2 new TAPO devices D210 and C410 we are trying to add to our home that are giving use "can only be controlled locally".
Changed the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 as recommended but error persists
Also tried turning off firewall on router to see if this would help - but does not.
So then reset devices and connected the devices to a hotspot on phone. They did not give the error when connected to the phone hotspot.
While connected to hotspot updated their firmware.
But after resetting and reconnecting to the Router we again get same "can only be controlled locally" error.
With red led light on C410
Also get error message "network unstable" when trying to change some settings. But the devices were placed right next to the router.
Our previously connected cameras C120 and C510W do not give this error.
We also purchased a C325WB at same time as these two giving the error, it connects with no error.
MAC ADDRESSES for devices giving error:
Doorbell D210 MAC address 7C:F1:7E:E1:93:B2
C410 Kit MAC address D8:44:89:35:A6:C8

Did the specialist provide a solution Wayne? Thanks Michael
Postscript: Duh!! I needed to allow Mobile Data for the Tapo App on my phone. Of course then it works both at home and remotely. ![]()

@Morshead Hi all, I am also experiencing the same problem for my D210. It was working fine for about 6 months until a few days ago when I noticed I cannot access the doorbell when I'm not at home. I use the Optus Ultra Modem with Wifi 6, connected to the 2.4GHz network.

I'm having the same problem. I'm in Australia on the Optus NBN network.
Seems there are multiple threads about Optus customers - I suspect Optus has mass-deployed a router update which has somehow disabled Tapo camera connectivity.

What you’re running into is a bit different from what’s being talked about here. It’s probably connected to the recent Optus network issues. Check out this article for more info and what to do next. [Tapo Smart Devices] Cannot be controlled remotely on the Optus network in Australia

Hi all, as of 2 days ago, it seems like the issue has disappeared. I haven't done anything additional beside restarting the device multiple times, disconnecting and reconnecting it back to my account. Notifications took about a day to be active again (e.g., "Someone is at your door" alerts).
For reference, I have another family member's doorbell also connected to my account, with a 5+ year old Optus modem and there were absolutely no issues with theirs. Pretty sure it's the new Optus modem issue. I also tried connecting the doorbell to a hotspot and that worked fine.
This also happened to my L530 lightbulbs.
