Model: Deco BE85
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.1.1

I bought the BE85 a few months ago to update to wifi 7 for the few devices I own that fully support it.

But the wifi 7 never worked properly and caused a lot of issues.

Issues I have:

1. If I stay under 1~2m from the router, the speed of the MLO network is very fast, 1.6~2Gbps, and latency is good. But if I go farther than that, both speed and latency get way worse than either 5GHz and 6GHz only networks.

DL Speed results from the same distance (over 2m away), with over 30 samples:

MLO: 40~60Mbps

6GHz only: ~1Gbps

5GHz only: 400~700Mbps

As you can see, the MLO network is absurdly slow.

2. Probably related to 1. the MLO connection is very unstable, it often disconnects or causes communication issues while browsing.

3. Whatever frequencies are in use in the MLO network are messing up with the other networks. For instance if 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz are all active, it will cause a lot of disconnections and instability in the main access point (2.4&5GHz), as well as the IoT (2.4GHz only), and the 6Ghz one.

If I select only 5&6Ghz in the MLO, then no more issues in any of the 2.4Ghz devices.

If I completely disable the MLO access point, then no more instability issues with any device.

4. The 6Ghz network randomly disappears from the list of networks on my WiFi 6E devices. The other networks are still there, just not the 6Ghz one. To solve the issue, I need to either reboot the modem or reboot each device.

5. Not related to the wifi issue here, but worth mentioning, the modem is badly overheating, I need to leave a fan under it at all time else it gets burning hot. There doesn't seem to be any fan inside the device itself?

Things I tried:

- full reset of the modem

- flashed various firmware (factory firmware, then 1.1.1, 1.1.2, and 1.1.3)

- disabled all the network functionalities

- tried every possible wifi settings combinations

- analyzed the wifi environment to select the best channels, and also tried changing them manually

- powered off all of my devices then tested them one by one on the different supported networks

Nothing helped with the issues, other than completely disabling the MLO network.

So my question, as the title says, what is going on with the wifi 7 on this modem? I saw in some year old posts it was still being worked on? Did I buy that very expensive piece of tech for nothing?

  @JayBee82

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

I'll forward your case to the senior engineer directly for further assistance. Please check whether you can receive my email.

At the same time, could you please help me check the following details:

1. Is your internet connection type "V6plus"?

2. How many online clients have you connected to Deco Mesh?

3. Can I have the model numbers of your WiFi 7 or 6 GHz-supported devices?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.
