Mine is different, but still just as broken. No detection events whatsoever. No ability to seek within the timeline on the camera in the app. I can monitor my 4 cameras which is good, but aside from monitoring, it's useless. I'm tempted to take the update so I can at least get my detection events back.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share an important limitation with the Tapo H500 Hub that might affect other users as well.

The Issue: I recently contacted TP-Link support (Wayne-TP) regarding HDMI output issues with my H500 Hub, and he informed me that HDMI streaming doesn't work when continuous recording is enabled on the cameras. According to support, HDMI streaming only works when cameras are set to "detection recording only" mode.

My Setup:

  • 1x Tapo C560W
  • Several Tapo C520WS
  • 1x Tapo C211
  • All connected to a Tapo H500 Hub

Why This Is Problematic: The whole reason I purchased the H500 was to replace microSD cards with a centralized, reliable continuous recording solution. For my use case (and I suspect for many others), AI detection-only recording simply isn't sufficient – I need complete footage coverage, not just event-triggered clips.

It seems counterintuitive that a hub designed for enhanced recording capabilities would lose HDMI functionality when using its primary feature.

Temporary Workaround: For now, I'm using an iPad for live viewing while maintaining continuous recording.

Hope for Resolution: I really hope TP-Link will address this in a future firmware update. This limitation significantly impacts the usability of the H500 for users who need both continuous recording and HDMI output.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any thoughts or additional workarounds would be appreciated!

To clarify: receiving the “Live Stream Paused” prompt is normal when the camera is battery‑powered, or when an AC‑powered model is set to record only upon motion detection. Under such configurations, the live stream will only play when motion is detected; otherwise, it will display the paused message.

However, if the camera is set to continuous recording, the live stream should play uninterrupted via HDMI under normal conditions.

@Wayne-TP I sent an email to that address on Monday, but I haven't received a reply yet, or even an acknowledgement.

@sroza1  I think I have found a work around for the recording glitches in 1.3.12.  If you open the hub in the Tapo app, then go to Screen Mirror, and turn the HDMI output OFF, then reboot the hub, all the cameras appear to begin working correctly again.  I did this yesterday afternoon and everything appears to be recording correctly as of 7 am this morning.  This does, of course, disable the HDMI output, so it's not a solution, but being able to record is more important to me.

@CaptainPackrat they have release a new beta that seems to correct all the bad behavior. I'd send another email prompting them to reply.

This version seems to be a bit better than the standard fw prior to the October beta-I can actually seek using the time bar on a camera. Used to be I could slide the seek bar and instead of showing me video, it would snap back to the closest detection event.

I've disabled auto updates.

@Wayne-TP If there is a newer beta version, would it be possible to have that sent to my Hub?  I appear to still be on 1.3.12 Build 20251217 rel.50878.

Try to update your H500. What version is loaded on the unit?

The last beta version that the team sent to our units was 1.3.12 Build 20260109.

Wayne says there is a new general release version:  1.3.12 Build 20260128 rel.51424

And that it has the fixes in it. Couldn't tell you if it's true because I can't get my H500 to acknowledge that there is an updated version for download. I guess at some point when I decide it's worth it, I'll contact support and have them figure out why it's not auto-updating. I just can't be bothered with it at the moment.
