Model: Archer GE800
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.1

Has anyone else still been having random reboot issues on the Archer GE800 running firmware 1.2.1? I made a change from WPA2-personal/WPA-PSK to WPA2-PSK on my main 2.4/5GHz network from the Tether app, and now my router seems to be rebooting every few hours.

I did go into the web portal instead of using the Tether app and found that this also disabled my OFDMA/MU-MIMO settings. I've now reverted my configuration to what it was before via the web portal. I'll report back to see if this stabilizes the router. Is the lesson here to NEVER use the Tether App under any circumstance?

For context my setup is as follows. Note this has been working fine for over 6 months:

  • Wireless settings
    • OFDMA/MU-MIMO enabled
    • Smart Connect enabled
    • 6GHz enabled
    • Channel widths set to the max and Auto
    • MLO network off
    • Guest networks enabled on 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz
    • IoT network enabled for both 2.4 and 5 GHz
  • I do have a RE653BE range extender hooked up with EasyMesh

@chickennugget I, too, experienced random reboot issues with my GE800. I eventually discovered the source of the problem: the BE230 connected via wireless EasyMesh. After removing the BE230, the reboot issues completely disappeared.

To avoid the reboot that's happening right now, please temporarily disable wireless EasyMesh (I haven't tested EasyMesh with a wired backhaul connection, so I'm not sure. If rebooting occurs even when using wired EasyMesh, turn off EasyMesh and use GE800 alone.). Also, reporting the issue to TP-Link support will help them resolve the issue more quickly.

@chickennugget

I can confirm this is unexpected behavior.

Is changing the wireless security from WPA2-personal/WPA-PSK to WPA2-PSK the only modification you've made after the firmware update?

Is the GE800 stable after you change the security back to WPA2-personal/WPA-PSK for the unified 2.4G/5G network?

If the issue disappears after you change the security back to WPA2-personal/WPA-PSK, I would suggest trying to change the security to WPA2-PSK again via the web interface page, then monitor the connectivity again.

However, if the issue persists, regardless of the security type you're using on the GE800, please try ABC_ChoCo's suggestion of removing the RE653BE from the network to observe if it is stable.

Waiting for your update.
