  @jbc7  Beta firmware has been sent to your device. You may check it later in your Kasa app and perform the update.

  @Wayne-TP

I upgraded my 4 switches to the beta firmware you sent me through the app. Three of my problematic switches had the same issue as always today. I walked in the room and the light did not turn on. Pressing the switch does nothing. It functions again after pushing the restart button.

I installed the beta firmware on my switch. It is still numbered 1.1.6.

It was ok for a 3 days, but froze today.

I am curious, the others who have the problem, do you have Home Assistant or some other home automation device polling the status switch on the local network?

Another possibility is a capacitor that is starting to fail.

  @ValentinMTL

I am running home assistant. I have automations set up around the three that crashed most recently. Are you saying that you believe this is likely the cause of the ones that are crashing?

Following this. I just got one of these installed (KS220M), running firmware 1.1.6 and using homebridge plugin. Will see if this constant polling causes the switch to crash.

Other switches and plugs I have (KS225, HS210, KP12M) all seem to be working perfectly.

I don't think home assistant as such is the problem, but it could be a factor.

It is not The Problem because other Kasa devices work fine.

It might play a role since the communication with HA is by polling, as opposed to push for the cloud connection. Polling means more cpu activity, more heat and more chances for something to go wrong, both physically and in software.

Push updates for HA, that must be somewhere high up on everyone's wish lists, but not as high as switches not crashing:)

  @ValentinMTL I can pretty much confirm it has to do with homebridge (or whatever 3rd party service). I had it on and it crashed within hours, had to restart switch.

I turned off "3rd party services" in the Kasa app which weirdly enough ONLY causes this switch to stop working with the homebridge plugin I'm using and the switch has been stable.

So not sure what it is but something in the firmware or this switch for some reason is clearly different.

Hi everyone, please be aware that the Home Assistant or Home Bridge is not a supported third-party by Kasa. Product's availability, performance, and stability are not guaranteed when they're managed through unofficially supported third-party platforms.

If your device is exhibiting similar phenomena after linking with some authorized platforms, such as SmartThings, Alexa, and Google Home, please let me know.

  @Wayne-TP this is a wild response to this thread because all the other switches from Kasa work fine, it is only this specific switch that has an issue so clearly there is an issue with this specific model or firmware combination.

Hi @Wayne-TP

My devices are not exclusively managed by Home Assistant. I mainly use the Kasa app to manage them.

This specific issue, with KS220M crashing has been bugging me for a while. I did try disabling HomeAssistant integration for the faulty devices, but the problem still occurred.

That is why I speculated that Home Assistant might play a role, but is not the primary cause. For all I know, the weather and power line fluctuations have more effect on it than anything else. Both KS220M were working fine at first, but the problem only started with the update to that introduced the double-click.
In my case, it is highly intermittent. Sometimes, the switch will crash every day, and sometimes it will work fine for weeks. Home assistant was the only problem, disabling or enabling the integration would have drastic effects, and it does not.
I have installed the firmware you provided on one of my KS220M, but not the other. In the past two weeks, the one with the new firmware crashed once. The second KS220M has not crashed in this period.
None of the other Kasa switches and plugs ever had this problem.

From the marketing point of view, if Kasa devices stop working with home assistant, a lot of the clients will turn to other brands.
