Smart sensing of human to keep a sm plug or sm bulb on
Thursday

Hello,

For now, Tapo human detection feature is wifi cameras can outperform the traditional PIR sensors. It allows more accurate triggers when needed. Say to switch an AC via smart plug or switch a light on when human is detected on camera. But I've seen a flaw or lack of feature there... it can only be programmed to be switched off after preset time without checking if human Presence is still there... that way, the device or light goes off with our preset time and goes on again as camera detects human again. Why not it be programmed with an extension to keep the plug or switch on until the human Presence is there... or say an option to switch off after certain minutes of inactivity (rather than a preset t8me after detection) ??!!

What's your expected scene with this feature? Can you share more details here?

  @Wayne-TP

Most of my outdoor cameras c520ws detects human Presence and light up my premise. It is best way to detect human Presence and light up as i have pets too roaming around in premise.. Using PIR in such scenario is useless as it will keep on triggering false positive.

For now there is No way to power off the light when human Presence is off the premise . For now the switch off is set to a preset time and unfortunately it switches off the light even when there is human Presence after that time. It is just time triggered and does not check if human Presence is still there. So in turn the light gets off and on in the intervals when human Presence is there for continuous period. If setting could be adjusted  in such a way that it checks for human Presence before triggering off couldnhave been better.

1. Camera check for human or vehicle or pet or whatever feature it has.

2. Trigger an activity (say switchbon light in our case)

3. Wait for preset time

4. If activity is still there , do nothing or say keep light on <<< missing feature

5. Again wait for preset time loop

6. If NO activity is there, do a trigger (in our case, switch off light)

That way the setup could be more intelligent and feature rich for many a people.

  Hi @MatsNits,

The tapo automations support your described scenario and is actually how I have my lights set.

I have an automation which turns on my hallway light when a person is detected by my camera at the front door.

In simple terms it is as follows:

  • "Effective time" between sunset and sunrise
  • "When" Front door camera detects person
  • "Then" Turn on the Hallway globe for 3 minutes

Because of the way automations work, the automation starts/restarts every time a person is detected so it will stay on until no person is detected for 3 minutes. This time duration can be set to whatever suits.

Hope this helps

@Rbuck dear friend, Thanknyou very much forbyour time and effort to help me.

In my scenario, I've kept the trigger for human detection and sw on a large flood light (through a tapo smart switch) for 3 minute exactly like you mentioned.

The issue is , it switches off exactly after 3 minutes without continuously keeping on if human Presence is still there.and after it is off, the camera trigger the sm sw on again to human Presence. (The off could have been avoided).

Ive a doubt

1. Are you us8ng smart switch or smart bulb?

2. Is this system programmed to check last 3 minute of inactivity if we set time to 3 minute.or some other logic.

For me the intermediate switch off is the issue.. if the sett8ng of 3 minute could have been done to 3 minute of non detection, it would have been better. (For smart switch too)..

Thank you once agn for the time and effort to add your view and thoughts here...
