Request for Fixes: Vehicle Detection (Two-Wheelers) & Alarm Not Ringing in Background
Monday
Model: Tapo C220
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.3.2

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am using the Tapo camera C220 and mobile application, and I would like to report two important issues that are limiting its usefulness:

1. Vehicle Detection Limitation
Currently, the vehicle detection feature works only for four-wheelers and fails to recognize two-wheelers. In my locality, only two-wheelers pass through, and four-wheelers cannot access the streets. Because of this, the vehicle detection option becomes useless for me and for many others in similar conditions. I kindly request you to release a firmware update that enables two-wheeler detection as well, so that this feature can be practically useful for a wider range of users.

2. Alarm Not Ringing in Background
Even though the activity alarm is enabled in the app, it does not ring on my mobile when the app is minimized or running in the background. I have already:

Allowed the app to run in the background

Disabled battery optimization

Locked the app and kept it running in the background

Despite this, the alarm only works when I am watching the live feed. Because of this, I am unable to know when someone enters, leaves, or when any activity occurs. Ideally, the alarm should ring in the background just like WhatsApp or Instagram calls, which ring even if the app is not open.

I kindly request your support team to look into these issues and provide a solution. If a fix is not currently available, please consider adding these improvements in the next firmware or app update.

Thank you for your attention and support.

Sincerely,

Avnish Kumar

Hi,
1. For your feedback about the Vehicle Detection feature, I'll log it and forward it to the relevant team for evaluation.

2. For the Alarm feature, if you are referring to the Alarm feature on the Tapo camera's Device Settings > Alarm page, enabling this feature means the camera will alarm when detecting events, rather than the phone will ring. If you want to be notified when the camera detects events, you can enable the Notification feature, and your phone can receive notifications even if the Tapo app is closed.
How to configure the Notification feature for the Tapo devices on the Tapo app

Best Regards

@Solla-topee When the app is closed, I can still receive notifications, but the alarm does not ring on my phone. However, when I watch the live feed, the alarm rings both on the camera and on my phone. If the app is closed, the alarm only rings on the camera. Since the camera is installed far away from my room, the alarm sound cannot be heard inside my room. That’s why I keep the live feed open on my phone throughout the night so that whenever any activity is detected, the alarm also rings on my phone and wakes me up. It would be very helpful if the alarm could also ring on my phone even when the app is closed.

Hi,
When you watch the camera's live feed, it should be you hear the camera alarm sound in the Tapo app via the live stream, rather than the alarm ringing on your phone.

In your usage scenario, if you want to hear the alarm sound in your room when the Tapo app is closed, you can purchase a Tapo Hub, such as the Tapo H100, to serve as a chime. For example, after setting up the H100 in the Tapo app, you can add an automation entry to let the H100 ring when the camera detects events.
