Solution Optimizing HDMI Output for Tapo H500: Better Screen Mirroring for Tapo AC-Powered Cameras/Doorbells
This Article Applies To
Tapo H500
Description
When an AC-powered Tapo camera or doorbell is connected to the Tapo H500, there is a Screen Mirror feature that allows users to cast the camera live stream to a bigger screen device (e.g. TV) via an HDMI cable.
While watching the camera’s live feed via HDMI screen mirroring, you might occasionally notice some buffering, slight delays, or even interruptions. If you do experience similar abnormalities on your devices, the firmware provided in this article could help. Keep looking to learn about how to apply for the firmware!
Before you proceed, be aware that HDMI output behavior depends on the recording configuration. If your camera is set to record detection videos only, it is normal to receive the 'Live Stream Paused' prompt when no events are detected.
1. Event-Based Recording: The live feed will only display when the camera detects motion or events.
2. Continuous Recording: Allows uninterrupted live streaming via Screen Mirroring

Wayne, I'm on the 0109 firmware and my hub isn't finding the version you mentioned. It says it's up to date.

@Wayne-TP I am receiving conflicting information. When screen mirroring with HDMI through the H500 I cannot get sound ok my monitor. I have seen where there is a firmware issue, I have seen where there is a setting issue, it has been stated to plug a mouse into the H500 and unmute, change TV settings, etc. I have tried everything. Then I have also seen where it states the HDMI port is for video only and doesn't support sound. Can you help me out on this? Which one is it?

Power cycle the hub, restart your router. If your hub still can't detect the new firmware, contact support team for further assistance.

Hi Wayne,
You can contact support and find out why there's no firmware update. I don't have the time to invest in it since My current firmware version is working well enough. I guess I'll just wait until there is an official release that does hit the base station.

This version is an official release and has been fully rolled out. It is uncommon but can occur for a device not to detect the new update, and the reasons can vary. Our support team would need to examine your specific device logs to determine the cause.
If you wish to upgrade to this firmware, this is the only path forward for a resolution. Or you can check for updates again after a few days, situation might change by then. We sincerely wish we could assist directly, but unfortunately, that's beyond our capability.
