Hi,  I would like to set up an EasyMesh network using an Archer A6 and a TL-WPA7617 Powerline device

I understand that the Archer A6 supports ethernet backhaul but does that mean ethernet backhaul also works when the Archer C6 is in Access Point mode?

The reason for Access Point mode is because I need to keep my ISP router as it supports a VoIP service for legacy phones in the house.

The term 'main router' is used in the TL-WPA7617 but does that mean the 'main Easymesh router' (which can be attached in Access Point mode to the ISP router) or the router that is connected to the internet?

As a supplementary question assuming Ethernet backhaul is supported in Access Point mode would I connect the Powerline devices to the ISP router or to the Archer C6?

Sorry for all the questions but it seems the devil is in the detail with EasyMesh :)

Thanks in advance

Daniel

Here is the list and the possible scenarios when using a router that supports an Easymesh in AP mode.

I believe that you can connect the powerline device to either your ISP router or the TP-Link router.

According to the firmware notes here https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/tl-wpa7617-kit/#Firmware "OneMesh" was added to the TL-WPA7617 with firmware version 1.0.2 Build 20210909.

That would indeed mean your firmware version 1.0.1 Build 210706 does not support any Mesh.

By the way, I usually recommend users to configure their devices via the built in web interface whenever possible, instead of using the apps. As we can see again here, the apps can sometimes show misleading information.

Re:Easymesh ethernet backhaul with Archer C6 in Access Point mode
Yesterday

@terziyski I am experiencing a problem adding the TL-WPA7617 to the EasyMesh network.  The TL-WPA7617 says the 'Main router does not support EasyMesh'

Situation is as follows

- I now have the Archer C6 installed with firmware updated to 1.15 Build 250719 Rel.63726n(4555) which is sufficient to support EasyMesh over ethernet backhaul

- I have enabled the Archer C6 in Access Point mode and have enabled EasyMesh

- I have plugged the TL-WPA7617 close to the Archer C6 and have connected them by ethernet cable.

- I have copied over the Wifi settings from the Archer C6 to the TL-WPA7617

The TL-WPA7617 does not appear in the EasyMesh network view within the Tether app

With the tpPLC app the EasyMesh page states the current main router does not support EasyMesh

I noticed the firmware version of the TL-WPA7617 is 1.0.1 Build 210706 Rel.43139n - could that be the problem and I need to update the firmware on the TL-WPA7617

@woozle Thanks - firmware updated and mesh now works :)

As you say it is odd that there's no OneMesh/Mesh support in the original firmware but the app GUI is happy to make comments about the router's capability!
