Disappearing devices
When my devices are offline for few days, they disappear from TAPO. I need to freshly configure them on next connection, which is super annoying. It did not work like this in the past.
Is it just me or is it a feature?

There are quite a few similar posts, none of which is getting a satisfactory response. In my case, we had a 7.5hr power outage, after which my bulbs and switches were offline. The bulbs were left in an on state. All offline devices had to be readded manually.

What Tapo devices do you have?
When a device goes offline, it typically remains listed in the app with an “offline” status and is only removed if you delete it manually. Even if the device is physically reset while offline, as the app has no way to detect that change, it's not able to delete the device either.

C310 and P100 are devices I use only sometimes. It's offline in the app for few days and then they are gone. When I bring them back online I need to readd them in TAPO. I did not reset them. As I am clearly not the only one and it happens with multiple devices, I am pretty sure the app just does not want to store offline devices for more than X days.

If the bulb turns on automatically after power is restored, it means its default state is set to “On”. If you don’t want it to light up, you can adjust this setting in the app. How to set Default State for Tapo smart bulb
Since you have the smart bulbs, their behavior (disappearing in the app after power is restored) is likely caused by an unstable power supply. When power fluctuates during restoration, it can mimic the soft‑reset sequence (three quick on‑off cycles) that triggers a reset. If the voltage is too low, the bulb may power on internally without visibly lighting up, so the reset may happen without obvious signs.
Tapo bulbs now include improved handling for unstable power conditions—the reset threshold has been raised to make accidental resets less likely. You can read more about this update and request the optimized firmware via the article linked below.
Tapo Smart Bulb Reset Method Update -- Reducing Bulb Resets Due to Unstable Power Supply
As for your smart switch, its reset mechanism is different from the bulb’s, so the explanation above does not apply. As mentioned earlier (what i replied to the thread owner), when a device goes offline, it normally stays visible in the app with an “offline” status and is only removed if you delete it manually. If your smart switches continue to experience this issue (disappear from the app all of a sudden) and it happens more often, then i think further investigation is required. Could you describe what kind of offline state your device is in? Is it because:
- The internet is down (router has no connection),
- The Wi‑Fi is disconnected (e.g., router turned off or device out of range), or
- The device itself is powered off (no internet or Wi‑Fi at all)?
Also, how long does it usually stay offline—for instance, 2-3 days, a week, or longer?
